A Mom’s Journey from Anti-Vax to “Science:” Give Me a Break!

134HLazaraus T. Jones here with a response to one of the dumbest posts I’ve ever read. Didn’t you hear? An “anti-vax” mom’s entire family (including her three vaccinated children) came down with the whoop and she’s made the switch (from a club she was never a part of) to “science.”

Although the article was entitled, “A Mom’s Journey from Anti Vax to Science,” this ain’t my first rodeo. I’m allergic to reverse psychology and this had “pro-vax propaganda” written all over it. I’d post a picture of my hives but I wouldn’t want to scare you into downing a bottle of Benadryl.

Let me give you the run-down of the facts. This mother invited her bro-in-law over for game night with a full-blown cold. She was totally cool with it though because we anti-vax freaks don’t care nothin’ bout a germ.

We’d had a game night at our house in March, my brother-in-law had a full-blown cold, so when the kids started with a dry cough a few days later I didn’t think much of it.

A few days later her kids developed a dry cough that was so bad she didn’t even take them to a doctor. She just “Googled” their symptoms and GASP! They had all of the symptoms of the common cold! (Totally okay to Google diagnose your children if you decide to vaccinate and talk about it, by the way.)

I jumped on Google to type in “child cough.” My kids had all but one symptom of pertussis, none of them had the characteristic “whoop.” But they had everything else.

Wait, she said they had all but one symptom? Okay, I’ll play. Here’s what WebMD describes as the symptoms of whooping cough:

Whooping cough, also called pertussis, is characterized by back-to-back coughs, followed by an inhale that has a “whooping” sound. Other symptoms may include runny nose, sneezing, and low fever.

Yet, in another part of her article she explicitly stated that her children did not have runny noses, sneezing, or the characteristic “whoop” always associated with whooping cough. (Hello? That’s why they call it “WHOOPING cough.”)

No one had a runny nose or sneezing but they all had the same unproductive cough.  Between coughing fits they were fine.

Yes my friends, these kids had the “whoopless cough” and there’s no way that big bro in-law gave it to them. He was probably vaccinated and if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that vaccinated adults don’t get sick and they don’t spread disease. But go head, we’ll just pretend it was whooping cough, that the pertussis vaccine is effective, and that if her other children were vaccinated they wouldn’t have gotten it like her other vaccinated children did.

To our surprise, this experience with whooping cough isn’t why she left the dark side. After wading through paragraphs of inconsistencies, this mother gave a list of the classic misconceptions all undercover pro-vaxers use when pretending to be reformed anti-vaxers.

She decided to stop living in fear, started listening to her pro-vax relatives and their hateful propaganda (instead of Jenny McCarthy), came back from the edge of conspiracy, decided that the medical community, Big Pharma, and the government weren’t in an incestuous relationship (they just share a bed and make-out all the time), and even brought God into it. It was hilarious.

But no reformed anti-vaxer story is complete without a little measles. The missing piece of her conversion “fell into place” when a small outbreak of a common, benign, childhood illness known as measles, occurred in her community, which killed, maimed, and harmed a whopping zero children.

The fact that her children could have “hypothetically” gotten measles and exposed a 34-week infant in the NICU (who would have been protected by Mama’s antibodies if she had acquired measles naturally as child) “chilled her to the bone.” Because yes, we all parade our children (vaccinated or not) through the NICU. For the record, children aren’t even allowed in the NICU, nor are recently vaccinated individuals, but that’s beside the point.

What ultimately convinced her to vaccinate? Fear, which is what every parent should base their vaccination decision on, a re-assessment of “community immunity,” and a real sense of “personal and social responsibility to God and man.” So she decided to catch her children up and shove them full of as much toxins and aborted baby ingredients as she could, God willing.

But it doesn’t end there. After dispelling the pro-vax agenda under the guise of reformed anti-vaxism, we’re taken to the hospital waiting room, where she’s waiting to see if her 10 month-old son has whooping cough (since baby doesn’t have protection thanks to mass vaccinating). She heard “a” whoop. The same whoop I make when I’m eatin’ my chips too fast and forget to come up for air between bites.

Yet, the CDC says that with pertussis in infants “the cough can be minimal or not even there.” So the big kids who should be whooping are whoopless but the baby who shouldn’t be whooping is whooping? This is all so confusing.

We never found out whether her kids actually had whooping cough because there’s no proof to corroborate her story – like lab confirmation. The only thing we have is her story and a clip of her kids coughing and it wasn’t half as bad as that really annoying pertussis commercial.

For the sake of objectivity though, I would post a clip of a baby who died from SIDS post-pertussis vaccine, but you wouldn’t be able to hear him. My friend would give anything to hear his baby cough.

Now, I’m not trying to “shame” this mom like she claims everyone from the anti-vax camp does. (I personally don’t know who these people are. Maybe she’s getting us confused with those pro-vax trolls.) Her kids were sick. It’s scary. I get it. But quarantine is fun. You get to sit at home all day and snooze on the couch with your kids, watch whatever you want (because they’re game for anything), and stuff your face with snacks…lots of snacks. (Well, maybe they don’t because they’re not whoopin’ it up, but you do.)

The fear of quarantine aside, lemme break this down for everyone. (You can pretend I’m yelling if it gets the message across more clearly.) People who do not vaccinate their kids, who have made an informed decision, don’t go running for the hills when their kid gets sick. Nor do they question their decision, because it was based on the scientific evidence (not emotional arguments). Whether or not our children get sick doesn’t change the fact that vaccines aren’t safe or effective.

My kid ate some nasty concoction she made up in the sandbox last week and woke up the next day with what would have been diagnosed with polio in 1954. Was I freakin’ out when she had a seizure? Sure. I took her to the emergency room like any reasonable parent would do and they gave her some Motrin. (I’d resort to Motrin before giving a vaccine guys, so cut me some slack.) Good as new.

My boy had pox once. Got it from a vaxed kid. Our house was one big quarantine party for a few days and we were all sad to see it go.

My other kid. She got the measl… (I’ll let you finish that sentence). Diagnosed that one WebMD style. Gave her some cod liver oil, vitamin A, turned down the lights, and chilled on the couch. She’s got lifetime immunity (the real kind) my friends.

My point is that parents who make decisions based on science instead of emotional arguments don’t regret their decision when their kid gets sick– just like people who vaccinate (who truly believe in their decision) don’t waiver when their kid develops brain damage post-vaccine. Oh wait, they do. Never mind.

Secondly, you should know that the pertussis vaccine does not work. (Still yelling.)
See here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here. Here.

The CDC knows it, doctors know it, parents know it, and hey, even Big Bird knows it and he doesn’t even have a brain. It’s a crappy vaccine. It makes one an asymptomatic reservoir for the disease, increases incidence of b. parapertussis, rarely induces immunity, and if it does, it lasts about as long as the segments between commercial breaks. That’s why we gotta get it over, and over, and over. For realz, chuggin’ your kid’s juice box would give you better protection against whooping cough.

So why the heck would I give my kid something that contains this:
Aluminum phosphate, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, 2-Phenoxyethanol, Stainer-Scholte medium, modified Mueller’s growth medium, modified Mueller-Miller casamino acid medium (without beef heart infusion), dimethyl 1-beta-cyclodextrin, ammonium sulfate,

Or this
aluminum phosphate, polysorbate 80, formaldehyde, gutaraldehyde, bovine serum albumin, 2-phenoxethanol, neomycin, polymyxin B sulfate, Mueller’s Growth Medium, Mueller-Miller casamino acid medium (without beef heart infusion), Stainer-Scholte medium (modified by the addition of casamino acids and dimethyl-beta-cyclodextrin), MRC-5 (human diploid) cells, CMRL 1969 medium (supplemented with calf serum), ammonium sulfate, and medium 199

Which could cause this:
Cyanosis, diarrhea, vomiting, cellulitis, anaphylaxis, upper respiratory tract infection, depressed level of consciousness, encephalitis, cough, dyspnea, eczema, autism, arthritis, muscular, meningitis, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, SIDS, and death.

To protect them against this:
Runny nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes, fever, cough (with a whoop), vomiting, and fatigue.

No thanks. With the current state of “vaccine science” and lack of accountability in the medical and scientific communities, we parents have to scrutinize what we’re told and that means tossing articles like the ones meant to scare us into vaccinating, in the trash.

For every emotional story about whooping cough, there’s an equally emotional story about a vaccine injury. Do your research and don’t let emotionally manipulative articles scare you into making a decision you’re not comfortable with.

Over and out,
Lazarus T. Jones

That is why we see the sudden and not coincidental story about Canadian mom regrets no vax decisions suddenly pop up in a coordinated FB, Wash Post, and Fox News campaign- it is the thrashing death rattle of the corrupt CDC/HHS/NIH nexus. It will take Offit down, and he is scared, terrified. ”

You can add to this list in the coordinated blitzkrieg the Daily Mail out of England and The examiner.

So again another con revealed just like the one last year where a “Mom” grew up unvaxed but decided her parents were wrong and she now has her children unvaccinated. There are also others and they usually are housed at shot of prevention website which is funded by the pharmaceutical companies. The only difference in these “flip stories” is the number of children. They increase to add more drama.

If you wish to continuing using these two agencies as sources as shining beacons of empirical truths of integrity and transparency (LOL), good luck! 😀

  3. Are you serious dude you realize the bacteria that causes whooping cough can occur naturally?? You realize its found in nature not just in a human body? How do you think the first person ever got it? Your logic is so flawed your denouncing years of research good intentions because of this belief of an evil elite nwo lol wow….

“the bacteria that causes whooping cough can occur naturally?? You realize its found in nature not just in a human body?”

Nearly a century after the release of the whooping cough (B. Pertussis) vaccine, mounting evidence suggests that widespread mandated use of the vaccine could potentially be doing more harm than good in the long term—in addition to having been found lacking in the effectiveness department. As reported by The Washington Post:

“The research suggests that while the vaccine may keep people from getting sick, it doesn’t prevent them from spreading whooping cough — also known as Pertussis — to others.

‘It could explain the increase in Pertussis that we’re seeing in the US,’ said one of the researchers, Tod Merkel of the Food and Drug Administration…

The study, titled: “Acellular Pertussis vaccines protect against disease but fail to prevent infection and transmission in a nonhuman primate model,” used infant baboons to test the hypothesis that “current acellular pertussis vaccines fail to prevent colonization and transmission” of B. Pertussis. (there is no vaccine for Bordetella Pertussis virus) http://www.pnas (dot) org/content/111/2/787

Lead author Tod Merkel did comment to the New York Times that when exposed to B. Pertussis after recently getting vaccinated, you could be an asymptomatic carrier and infect others, saying:

“When you’re newly vaccinated, you are an asymptomatic carrier, which is good for you, but not for the population.”

  4. When I had a full blown grand mal seizure as an infant who was given the “Wonderful” pertussis vaccine… I have been skeptical of vaccines ever sense. Now I am expecting our first child, I am an adult…and the doctors want to give me the pertussis vaccine while growing a baby. I wanted to laugh at them. I explained the seizures. They said I was grown up now, and wouldn’t get one. What about my baby? What if he reacts like I did, in the womb? You can’t argue with these people. I didn’t (and WILL NOT) get the vaccine, but I sure did feel like a crappy person by the end of the day. 😛 Good thing my wonderful never-been-vaccinated husband was with me 🙂 I think vaccines are scary. Thats why I don’t get them. I really think it is a parents choice, and I don’t understand how people vilify those who choose not to get a vaccine. What ever happened to my body my choice? Oh, so it’s only my body when it’s convenient for you, eh? I am 28 years old. I want to be natural, healthy, and fit. I don’t want a weird chemical put in my body that might give me 2 ish years of immunity from a disease that I know my body is capable of overcoming.

Please explains scientifically, with substantiating independent data how an unvaccinated, healthy virus free, pathogen free, robust child infects anyone with anything? Immuno – compromosed or not. How does this happen biologically?

If babies and the immunocompromised – who are supposedly the main beneficiaries of so-called herd immunity – can spend so much time in hospitals and doctors’ waiting rooms surrounded by *actual* sick people then why on earth would they be in danger being surrounded by *potentially* sick unvaccinated kids? They are actually in more peril by vaccinated children.

  7. Are most anti-vaxers under 50? Sounds as though most did not live through the polio epidemic or grow up with children who were partially crippled by polio. I do not believe that any parent who lived through that would consider Jonas Salk as part of a massive government/big pharma conspiracy. A major reason life spans have increased so much is because people, especially children, no longer die so often from disease. We now have cures for those diseases because of science. My grandmother lost four siblings to childhood diseases; she also spoke of relatives who died during the flu epidemic of the 1020s. I am all for questioning government and being a skeptic, but enough of the brash attitude and discounting of the contributions these medical advances have made. A younger person today is just not able to grasp the fear the families of earlier times faced; otherwise, they might not be engaging in fear-mongering today.

    1. First of all, we know far more about hygiene and diet. Then there’s the revelation that maybe, just maybe the polio outbreak may have been made worse because of a popular pesticide and also from the polio vaccine itself. Not to mention, symptoms of polio are still being caused by the vaccine in third world countries…from the live oral drops that are no longer used in developed nations. Here is a presentation that explains this in more detail.

I have also personally talked to a GP who specializes in toxicology who grew up poor and lived through the polio era. He and his brothers all contracted polio, but because his family was unable to afford sugared foods (as used to be the case, but sadly has flipped flopped now) or DPT they had flu symptoms (as was how the disease presented in 95% of cases) but were not disabled. Most in his neighborhood experienced the same symptoms, or none at all. I was advised by this doctor to feed my kids little or no sugar and keep their immune systems strong and they would be very unlikely to have severe problems. He was willing to give my son the shot if I so chose, but allowed me to make that decision knowing the responsibility of keeping him healthy was squarely on my shoulders. Diet plays a huge part in the function of the immune system.

My son contracted Rubella at 2 1/2 from a recently vaccinated friend, the timeline of symptoms was spot on although there were no reported cases of the measles (or measles-like illnesses) in the area. I had heard his friends’ mother talking about her kids’ doctor’s visit and shots about a week before he came down with symptoms…but had no idea that MMR (especially the Rubella component) could shed. He is just fine. Confirmation came 2 years later when I had my blood panels drawn during my second pregnancy and they showed heightened antibodies for Rubella (which is what happens when a person is exposed without getting sick). I learned that Measles/ Rubella is to be respected and monitored, but not feared…especially if a person encourages a healthy immune system naturally. I have also learned from my grandparents (who are adamantly pro vaccine) and my parents about how terrible Measles, mumps, and Rubella AREN’T… and how important it was to get them at a young age. I have experienced chickenpox, it was not traumatizing. I was vaccinated for the schedule in the 80’s and 90’s plus a few extra for travelling and jobs. But kids now get at least 3 times more. I have a very spry, mentally sharp 90 year old doctor friend who never trusted vaccines, and is completely uncomfortable with the vaccine schedule now, and since she and her doctor husband were working in the middle of it all, I trust her.

Yes, many vaccine skeptics are under 50 but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t very carefully weighed our decision. We have also had the “privilege” to see the rates of chronic illnesses drastically increase from the time we were in school to the time our children are in school. And one of the only factors that has also universally increased is the doses of vaccines kids get (which contain toxins that can cause allergies, diabetes, and neurological symptoms that can cause learning disabilities or worse…listed on package inserts). You could also add crappy, processed, chemically-doused food as a factor…so I take both into serious consideration and control what I can.

I am not anti-doctor. Doctors are necessary, but when I cannot have a decent conversation about nutrition with my child’s doctor, it’s hard to trust them on ‘preventative’ treatments. Most illnesses, including measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, flu, etc. are treatable at home…if there are complications or high fevers, I will call a doctor. If there is an injury, we will go to a doctor. When I get told I MUST buy baby food, instead of making many nutrient-rich varieties at home, because it has added vitamins for my already healthy baby, I don’t want to go to a doctor.

My fully unvaccinated 16 month old got sick often her first 10 months when my minimally vaccinated 5 year old was going to school (I think partially because I ate an embarrassing amount of sugar while breastfeeding her…and it affected her health). These last 6 months (since starting solids of wide varieties of fruits, veggies, legumes, and home raised eggs), she has only gotten about a third of what he brings home and gets over them in a fraction of the time…while he’s still hacking and snotty for another week or two.

We have our very valid and deeply considered reasons. Most, not all, have researched and understood that while our kids may get the vaccine-preventable diseases, they are unlikely to be damaged by them if we are diligent about their diets and exercise. We also know that many vaccines, like pertussis are embarrassingly ineffective, and some vaccines can cause its recipient to be contagious for up to 3 weeks. We have our reasons, we do not make our decision lightly.

      1. Measles can lead to encephalitis a decade after they “beat” measles. You can’t use diet to control brain swelling. I can see that you don’t care if your child dies of a preventable disease, but I’m sure the parents of the other kids you out at risk do care about their kids.

        Like

      2. Interestingly, encephalitis is a very common severe side effect of vaccines as well. So there’s another conundrum that vaccine skeptics must take into account…because diet has no effect on how kids react to vaccines. Obviously I do care if my child dies…and have spent a innumerable amount of hours wading through and consider info on both sides, healthy nutrition, family medical history, disease treatments, as well as talked to a wide variety of doctors. I CARE. I am also one of the first ones to pull my kid from school if he get what everyone else is passing around. He only gets what he’s been exposed to…same as everyone else…even many vaccinated kids get what they’ve been vaccinated against, and can spread it. Vaccinated kids can also be asymptomatic and spread diseases without intention (pertussis is notorious for this…admittedly by the CDC). I also care for the chronic well-being of my son’s generation as a whole, and children who are suffering from vaccine reactions and will continue to suffer for the rest of their lives. DON’T TELL ME I DON’T CARE. But I do start by caring about MY son first. I will not possibly sacrifice him for someone else.

  8. you should be aware that a decade after recovering from measles, encephalitis is a possibility, it’s one of the long term effects. The measles can be completely and naturally cured, it doesn’t mean your child’s brain won’t swell until they die 10 years down the road. I truly hope it doesn’t happen, but you obviously don’t care enough to prevent it. Also, kids die from chicken pox, so I’m glad you are so happy that your child had it.

When someone posts an inflammatory statement “I can see that you don’t care if your child dies of a preventable disease”, (I hope people can see the pattern….what a manipulative and derogatory statement), just negates the point they are trying to make, and insults parents who go thru massive research before making a decision.

    1. And others like myself learned the hard way. My daughter got vaccine-induced encephalitis. Daily migraines and other health issues. Wish I had learned about vaccines just a year sooner. Thankfully she was spared the 18 month ones or I’d probably have lost her like so many other parents have experienced.

      1. A trend i find so disturbing is the lack of empathy that is displayed to parents who are commenting that have dealt with vaccine injuries and deaths. Sadly, what usually takes a rude awakening is the permanent injury or death of a loved one, to compel people to research further. My daughter was fully vaccinated her first few years. Luckily, there were choices i made in terms of her diet (i took her off milk due to allergic reaction) and choice of pain reliever to pre-dose her with (ibuprofen instead of tylenol), which may have prevented increasing the toxicity of the vaccines. I have met many many family and friends who are dealing with either a dead or permanently injured child due to a vaccine – it is not 1 in a million, a lie being perpetuated by comments in this ongoing debate online.

How can any parent support a child being collateral damage for corrupt agencies, which has been shown time and again the level of corruption that is taking place within the CDC and FDA? I support a parent having the right to making an informed decision (i’m not anti or pro vax, but pro safety). Those that support force vaccinations, will probably face some very harsh realities in the future….

  10. You’re an uninformed (at least when it comes to the real scientific facts), pompous idiot. I resent that you joke about the severity of whooping cough. Both of my (vaccinated) kids contracted the disease from an unvaccinated pocket of kids at my son’s school (50% vaccination rate). For my 5 year old this was a relatively minor illness (and no, he did not “whoop”), but for my 1 year old daughter this has been another story. She has had 2 months of severe coughing bouts that frequently ended in vomiting. She has been to the ER once and I called 911 after she slumped over and lost consciousness in her high chair and turned blue. She is fortunately recovering. But before we were aware of the illness I traveled across the country with my (coughing) son to visit my mother who has ALS and met my newborn niece. For either of them, pertussis can be very serious…plus there is no telling how many people we exposed on the 4 airplanes on which we traveled. So yes, the DTaP vaccine is not very effective against pertussis, which is why we rely on the immunity of others to help keep the disease in check. The vaccine we received as kids was much more effective, but yielded more reactions, which is why we now have a less effective vaccine. Your callous attitude is insulting. I’m disgusted that I ever bothered to read this.

  11. Please understand the term “comparatively.”
You are significantly less likely to die or become seriously from a vaccine compared to the chance of dying or becoming seriously ill from not getting yourself [or children] vaccinated.

Statistics show this. Over and over again.

    2. Methinks you need to analyse statistics with a little more vigour. They can be made to show literally anything. The statistics used for deaths from common childhood diseases are typically global, ie they include all those children from 3rd world countries who do die from the disases in question because of the poor sanitation and nutrition in those countries. If you live in a developed country you are extremely unlikely to die or be heavily affected by most the diseases which are vaccinated for because of nutrition and sanitation. Now compare this to the known risks associated with vaccination (see the manufacturers own literature), and the ‘known unknowns’ (eg we know that we know very little about the brain or, indeed, about the immune system, and we know that we cannot know the full long term effects of vaccination on these). Now add to this the known exaggeration of the effectiveness of vaccination practiced by the manufacturers who stand to make enormous profits from them (see Merck whistleblowers, for example, or recall the days when vaccinations where stated with confidence to give lifetime immunity with one shot. Then we needed one booster. Then we needed 2 boosters. Then we got the disease anyway but,, it is insisted,’it must be a milder version’…ludicrous claim impossible to prove yet inexplicably believed by the general public)
Now recall all the studies carried out to show the flaws in peer reviewed science and the conflicts of interest omnipresent. Now recall all the scientific ‘facts´stated with absolute confidence which later turned out to be dangerous nonsense (x raying pregnant women, Vioxx, Thalidomide, etc).
      Now think again!

  12. I’ve noticed quite a few posts, about the fears of ppl who suffer from autoimmune issues and justify vaccines. Yet, i keep seeing information how vaccines actually contributes to autoimmune…This is just one piece that discusses Aluminum (an adjuvant for many vaccines… that the CDC deem safe):

“When assessing adjuvant toxicity in children, several key points ought to be considered: (i) infants and children should not be viewed as “small adults” with regard to toxicological risk as their unique physiology makes them much more vulnerable to toxic insults; (ii) in adult humans Al vaccine adjuvants have been linked to a variety of serious autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, yet children are regularly exposed to much higher amounts of Al from vaccines than adults; (iii) it is often assumed that peripheral immune responses do not affect brain function. However, it is now clearly established that there is a bidirectional neuro-immune cross-talk that plays crucial roles in immunoregulation as well as brain function. In turn, perturbations of the neuro-immune axis have been demonstrated in many autoimmune diseases encompassed and are thought to be driven by a hyperactive immune response; and (iv) the same components of the neuro-immune axis that play key roles in brain development and immune function are heavily targeted by Al adjuvants.

In summary, research evidence shows that increasing concerns about current vaccination practices may indeed be warranted. Because children may be most at risk of vaccine-induced complications, a rigorous evaluation of the vaccine-related adverse health impacts in the pediatric population is urgently needed.”

Can people see a pattern between long term health issues related to vaccines??

  13. I was wondering why you think measles is benign. Most of the time it is, but it can be fatal!

And according to WebMD (yes, mock me please.) “Most of the severe disease and complications from pertussis occur in very young children, who either haven’t been vaccinated or haven’t completed their vaccinations yet,” says Harry Keyserling, MD, professor of pediatric infectious disease at Atlanta’s Emory University and a spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatrics. In 2012, there were 18 reported deaths from pertussis nationwide.

I don’t think it’s fair to say vaccinators are just afraid of their kids getting a little sick. The vaccines were developed because these diseases were actually killing people!

    1. I wonder if you realize what you are saying:
“I was wondering why you think measles is benign. Most of the time it is, but it can be fatal!”

I fully understand your thought process, because it is the same as most vaccine skeptics:
“I wonder why you think vaccines are benign. Most of the time they seem to be, but often they can cause lifelong injuries and be fatal.”

The difference is, that we do not dismiss the many vaccine injuries and deaths that have occurred, we instead make them a consideration when we choose whether or not to vaccinate. We consider the seriousness of the diseases and strengthen our kids immune system naturally through nutrition and active living. We understand that what kids eat directly effects how well their immune systems will fight off any “vaccine-preventable” diseases. We take it upon ourselves to be the “uncool” parents and limit sugar and processed food intake…for the sake of our children’s health.

My first child contracted Rubella from a recently vaccinated friend (there were no measles-like cases in the area at the time) at 2 1/2. The only thing that slowed him down was a mid-grade fever for 2 1/2 days…when that was over he was off and running (inside…we were careful) with minor itchiness. He has had a very low sugar and processed food diet since birth, and he weathers most illnesses without slowing down. He has been vaccinated twice with single vaccines at 4 and 6 months, and no more . My fully unvaxxed 16 month old has only gotten a fraction of what my 5 year old brings home from school…and usually only has a snotty nose for a few days that tells me she’s fighting something while he’s still hacking and sucking snot for another week and a half. They have very similar diets, but she weathers illnesses better than my twice-vaccinated son. I thought he was pretty well-off until she came along and I can see such a difference, now I really regret being bullied those two visits when I allowed vaccines. I am almost certain he caught pertussis this year…because he has had a chronic cough for about 6 months after a really hard cold not long after school started. But guess what…my daughter never got it. Strangely, this is a similar story for many parents who vaccinated (even minimally) one child and not another.

Understand that we have our reasons, we have made serious considerations for many factors, and though our decision may be different from yours, our reasoning is quite similar. We love our children and want to protect them from the things we feel are truly harmful for the duration of their lives. When a “protection” proves to harm on numerous occasions, some have decided that form of protection is not worth the possible harm. You may take that risk, I will not…that is our choice as parents.

      1. If you’re really looking at the “big picture” then know this – adverse vaccinations are not contagious. And that is the flaw to your argument. Children – in very rare instances – do have strong adverse reactions to vaccines. But they do not then become dangerous to other children.

Children who contract measles or whooping cough on the other hand present a serious risk to other children that they come across. If every parent followed your flawed reasoning and choose not to believe in vaccinations, then we have something we refer to as an outbreak. A national outbreak of a very contagious disease.

Seeing as you probably live in a developed country where outbreaks on such a large scale don’t happen, you probably don’t comprehend (or don’t seem to want to) that this is bad in several different ways. Obviously deaths and injuries caused by said diseases would skyrocket, making them incomparable to children who have had adverse reactions to vaccines. Hospitals become overwhelmed and waiting times simply become too long, which doesn’t help with that death/injury toll. Parents become desperate. Civil unrest. Crime goes up. Lots of bad stuff.

You may say that its your choice, but if I had a child who was too young to be vaccinated, and I found out that after coming into contact with your child that they contracted a perfectly preventable disease… well, we’d have a very serious discussion about “choice” which I doubt would end well for you.

And whilst good diets do improve immunity, it doesn’t make you immune. It doesn’t matter if you eat apples or chips, if you come in contact with someone who has whooping cough and you’re not vaccinated, you’ll most likely get it. That’s information that’s freely available from healthcare websites, so stop trying to downplay the seriousness of it all.

      2. My unvaccinated child has been exposed to whooping cough twice, once at daycare, more than half the kids got it, he didn’t get it, then at school it went through his class like wildfire, he didn’t get it. They also got chickenpox, he got a headache and a fever and put himself to bed early (unheard of, so I knew he wasn’t well) and then had no further symptoms. When they all got whooping cough the vaccinated children did not stay home from school…to me that is quite alarming. I knew that if my child HAD caught it he would have got the blame for starting the whole thing. We got a note home from school saying whooping cough was about so be careful if you’re not vaccinated! But it should have read be careful if you are a human being living on this planet because it affects everyone. Vaccinated kids are supposed to be the blocker between unvaccinated (aren’t we all supposedly hitching a free ride on their immunity?) instead it seems that vaccinated children are providing a bridge from unvaccinated to unvaccinated, which proves how pointless vaccination is. A chain of disease links one case of the disease to the next, but the pro-vax crew seem to think that gives them a licence to keep linking back till they happen to discover an unvaccinated kid and blame the whole thing on them, totally ignoring the irony of this.

  14. just one thing. Please do not ever downplay the seriousness of pertussis. I work at a children’s hospital, specifically with babies 2 years and under. We see at least a case a month during a bad season, and that is at ONE.HOSPITAL. And it is scary as hell. Until you have seen a 2 week old gasping for breath, dropping his heart rate to dangerously low levels, requiring bag resuscitation several times a day, kids COMMONLY needing ICU and intubation because of it, do not sit there and tell me it is “just a cough.”

And for the record- you’re not trying to “shame” this mom? Bull.shit. (Pardon my language.) I would hate to see your attitude when you ARE trying to shame someone. Though I have a feeling it would look suspiciously exactly the same.

    1. I wish parents would be advised to ask people to wear a face mask rather than get the vaccine. The vaccine is notoriously ineffective and our local maternity hospital has found midwives with pertussis on two separate occasions that I am personally aware of. If everyone was aware that pertussis IS just a cough in ADULTS and sometimes is asymptomatic in vaccinated people then babies would be a lot safer. I pray that this vaccines inefficiency comes to light so everyone can be more careful of this revolting disease. A lot of people don’t even realise that their immunity wears off and they don’t consider pertussis even when they are constantly coughing for weeks on end because they know they have been vaccinated. I wish we could all work together to minimise babies exposure to pertussis instead of fighting about who is and who isn’t vaccinated, because this particular vaccination is pathetic, and even the manufacturers admit that its not as effective as it used to be because they had to change the formulation after the old one was damaging too many babies. Babies of similar age to the ones that you see. All babies are precious and they all deserve to be looked after.

  15. Thank you so much for posting this. When I read the original article it just didn’t ring true. Why did the mom freak out when her un-vaxxed kids got the disease? All the non-vaxxing parents I know are aware that their kids can, in fact, get sick from “vaccine preventable” diseases and they are educated on how to deal with them. They take illness in stride and provide supportive care, with the understanding that long-term immunity (as opposed to the at best temporary immunity from vaccines) will ultimately result. This mom acted really surprised that her kids got sick. And, from whom did the kids catch pertussis? The uncle sounds like a probable source, especially in light of recent data indicating that a fairly large percentage of adults are chronic carriers of pertussis. Was he tested? Was anybody tested or were they “diagnosed” based on vague symptoms? I would love to see a more in-depth medical discussion of this family’s anecdotal account.

I especially appreciate that you provided all the links to reputable sites explaining the problems with the current pertussis vaccine, of which the public is largely unaware. The asymptomatic transmission is particularly troubling in terms of “herd immunity” and the practice of “cocooning.” The mainstream media continues to recommend vaccination for all adults interacting with an infant or immuno-compromised person, ignoring the fact that this will NOT prevent transmission of the disease and may, paradoxically, promote it due to lack of symptoms in carriers.

Having recently retired from 22 years working in mainstream medicine I am amazed at the disparity between actual medical literature versus what is being told to the public. Some of the comments here reflect that, in so far as otherwise intelligent and “scientifically minded” laypeople are thoroughly (and enthusiastically!) convinced of inaccurate information that they have gleaned from the popular press. How are they to know? I would like to think that articles like this could educate people, although I think it is improbable, in that you are immediately labeled “anti-vaxx” and therefore dismissed, as I was when I first tried to inform people about the limitations of the pertussis vaccine. Nonetheless, keep up the good work.

  16. To be fair, whooping cough, at least these days, often does not cause a whoop on the inbreath. It does cause a string of coughs, like ten at a time, without being able to take a breath in between. My eight-month old (thrice-vaccinated) daughter got it, and coughed up vast sheets of clear, slippery mucus at the end of each coughing fit. (Although she gave it to me, and I didn’t cough up sheets of mucus.) She coughed for over a month, I for over two months, the Chinese used to call it the hundred-day cough. I think those together would be the diagnostic signs. The crucial thing to remember is that it is no longer dangerous except for the very youngest newborns in the first three or four months of life, and one in 200 of them may die if they get it, still not a huge number, but a good reason to keep young newborns sheltered at home for their protection. It was uncomfortable, but we both fully recovered. When my daughter got the DTaP booster at 18 months, she, already damaged by encephalitis caused by the hep-B vaccine at birth, given without permission, had two words, but they were erased forever as soon as she got the booster and she was diagnosed with autism two months later. Pertussis is greatly to be preferred. And yes, it is fairly common now, but you’ll get permanent immunity after a bout with it if you’ve never gotten the vaccine (original antigenic sin).

  17. Her article was very well thought out and she was clear To not bash either side but clearly gave “both sides” . when you use condescending tones throughout your article and the “yelling” it loses something. Everyone is entitled to raise their children the way they would like, whether they are “right or wrong”. Try not to judge, you never know when your child could God forbid contract one of these diseases and not be here (in reference to your friend’s pain… Some of us have that pain from the disease that we could have prevented possibly. . even that slight possibility is enough to make us all second guess on both ends)

  18. I stopped reading your article when I realized you don’t know what you are talking about. The most common way for whooping cough to spread to children is through adults. Yes, even if they are vaccinated. They aren’t sick because they were vaccinated but carry the disease. Maybe you should Google a little more. Oh, and get off your high horse, too. Maybe then people might be a little more receptive to your arguments.
