Dear Mom Who Thinks I Need to Vaccinate My Kids Against Measles

shutterstock_157245107Guest Post by Louis James

Yeah, I’m totally going there. I know this vaccination subject is pretty touchy with the undertones of intolerance, discrimination, and bigotry and all, but after seeing a letter written to a “mom who decided not to vaccinate her kids against measles,” I just couldn’t sit by while parents are thrown under the bus and innocent kids get sick and die.

To be perfectly frank, I was a bit offended that this letter wasn’t written to dads too but for the sake of prioritizing stupid, there are more important things to address…like the fact that kids in this country do not “get sick and die” from measles. Hello? When was the last time a kid died from measles in America? Here’s a clue…it wasn’t yesterday. Disney ain’t deadly and neither are the measles.

So here goes.

Dear Mom who thinks I should vaccinate my kid against the measles,
I get it. You’re like a mama bear. A mama bear that spends a little too much time watching CNN and reading anti-vaxxer hate articles on TIME. Ain’t nobody subjecting my kiddo to a bullshit rash!

I totally agree. We should all protect our children from anything that’s going to hurt them. So I hope you don’t mind that I demand a little something more from the scientific community before I shoot my kid up with a harmful vaccine that doesn’t work. You know…like studies that aren’t done by the makers of the vaccines or the “Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation” and studies that aren’t manipulated by the CDC. My kid is worth a proper safety study and so is yours. At least I think so.

{Read Your Baby, Your Way: Taking Charge of Your Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting Decisions}

But go ahead … walk down the street and tackle my kid to the ground and shove a big ole shot in his leg with the MMR vaccine. I’ll shove a big ole lawsuit in your face. You wouldn’t want me to tackle your child to the ground because he’s not in quarantine for six weeks after receiving a live vaccine, would you? You know … to protect MY baby bear.

Oh wait, you didn’t know live vaccines shed? They do and here’s the thing: some kids are immunocompromised. They can’t receive the MMR vaccine and they can’t be around recently vaccinated children either. (Read that sentence again … very slowly.)

My child has cancer so when your super healthy vaccinated kid (try not to laugh) sheds and infects my kid with vaccine strain measles, guess what happens to my kid?

HE DIES.

As in gone forever. (FYI, I’m using the same warped creative license you used to make your point. None of my kids actually have cancer.)

So thank God I didn’t risk my perfectly healthy child’s life by giving him a shot that has NEVER been proven safe or effective, could put a cancer patient at risk, and could put him in the immunocompromised category everyone is blubbering on about. Thank God I put my child first. We’d have a problem if I didn’t.

Since you brought up MMR and autism in your letter as if this was the only reason one would choose not to vaccinate, I felt it necessary to bring a few things to your attention. Did you know the MMR vaccine can cause brain encephalitis and brain encephalitis causes autism? Of course you didn’t. You admitted that you didn’t do your research and what do all of those parents with vaccine-injured children know? They were just parents who (like you) followed the CDC’s vaccination schedule only to end up with neurologically damaged children for life.

Actually, they’re really space aliens whose kids get paid a bajillon dollars to “pretend” to be autistic. It’s all a huge elaborate fraud. Except that it’s not. The only elaborate fraud is the fact that the CDC manipulated the studies that show vaccines don’t cause autism. Dr. Thompson, a senior research scientist at the CDC admitted it and no major media outlet picked it up. They’re too busy reporting on a rash.

But the CDC says there is no “causal connection” between autism and the MMR vaccine. How convenient. I guess we should all pack up, go home, and vaccinate our kids…said no parent with a functioning brain ever.

The CDC says there’s a relationship between mitochondrial disease and autism. (I’m one of those stupid parents who got their children genetically tested for this mutation when I was deciding whether or not to vaccinate.) Page 11 of the insert for the Tripedia vaccine we had as kids lists autism as an adverse reaction. Brain encephalopathy, encephalitis, and neurological damage are listed as possible adverse reactions on every single vaccine package insert (I hope you haven’t left reading the package inserts up to the “professionals” too.)

Children have been awarded money for suffering autism post-vaccine. Scientists at the CDC have admitted to manipulating autism studies so that parents won’t question the safety of the MMR vaccine. Oh, and then there are thousands of alien parents whose children just woke up one day with autism.

While we’re talking about the CDC, let’s just see what the experts have to say about measles, shall we?

Measles is an illness characterized by a generalized rash lasting ≥3 days, a temperature of ≥101°F [≥38.3°C], and cough, coryza, and/or conjunctivitis.”

You mean it’s not a death sentence? No. It’s a rash. Do you want to vaccinate your kid and subject them to neurological damage or death…for a RASH? I guess it’s your choice. The CDC’s clinical definition is based off of how measles presents in the office setting. Go ahead. Ask a doctor who has actually seen measles (in America). I dare you.

Maybe you’re thinking I’m being all melodramatic about this, but here’s another little thing being used to manipulate parents like you:

The CDC says measles can be dangerous (but of course, the MMR vaccine is perfectly safe). They just leave out the “in third-world countries” part. Then they make some blanket statement about children having to be treated in hospitals but if you dig a little further my friends, you’ll find out these hospitalizations were for diarrhea and dehydration. Gasp!

It’s true; measles could cause pneumonia, lifelong brain damage, deafness, and death. (So could countless other things we care nothing about and don’t vaccinate for.) But it doesn’t…at least according to the CDC’s MMWR data that everyone fails to read. Hey, do you know what’s more likely to cause brain damage, deafness, pneumonia, and death? The MMR vaccine.

And guess what, I already knew this, but there is a handful of kids who can’t be vaccinated for all sorts of reasons, like kids who are less than one and are no longer protected against measles because we vaccinate their mommies with junk MMR vaccines, kids who are allergic to the shots, and kids with immune system problems (oh wait, these kids can be vaccinated with MMR according to the CDC).

Yes, there are a few kiddos out there whose parents would LOVE to get them vaccinated but can’t. I’m sorry. (Actually, I’m not because I think your kid is better off without vaccines.) There are also a lot of parents who wish they could take back their decision to vaccinate…but they can’t.

So no, I will not vaccinate my kiddos. I will not avoid public places. I will also not put up with the intolerant sewage and bigotry coming out of your mouth or anyone else’s who thinks they have the right to weigh-in on my parenting. You want to vaccinate your kiddo and put every single child at risk? You go right ahead.

We can still be friends but don’t take it personal when I avoid your recently vaccinated child for 3-6 weeks until the risk of viral shedding has passed and don’t be mad when I call your bluff when you say you’ll assault my unvaccinated child on the street when your temporary junk immunity to measles has long worn off. Whoa, you didn’t know you were just as much of a risk to that immunocompromised kid as my child is? Better get your booster.

And oh, by the way, if this Disney measles outbreak taught you anything, it’s that the vaccinated can get measles and it is no more deadly than your seasonal sinus infection.

Signed,
Louis James

    1. One of the true problems is that we are not only talking about measles. Unfortunately, we are talking about practically every eradicated disease in the USA coming back. (Some parents choose absolutely no vaccinations not just skip the MMR) so hello small pox, and welcome polio, we saved a spot just for you. I love that I breastfed my children and helped give them some of my antibodies, exposed them to people so that they could make some of their own as well too but here is where they problem lies. Just like you stated, there is a schedule and so if a younger child who is not old enough yet for their MMR vaccine is playing at your home (let’s say their cousins) and you’d known your child was coming down with something but you weren’t sure what until a day or 2 later and thats when you find out indeed it is a bad case of the measles which he his body’s immune system kicks in and rids him of, what do you think happens to the baby? Or the elderly man that takes his walks daily to keep his circulation flowing and loves children (Plus the bench just happens to be a great place for a quick sit down) where he encountered your child? What happens to him and his age compromised immune system? You must do more research. There has not been any links found between autism and the MMR vaccine. Unfortunately, the vaccine is given at an age where major milestones should start to be hit and it is also usually when parents begin to pick up on the fact that something is different. They tried to say it was the tiny amount of mercury, but they truth is you probably ate more in your diet than is in the vaccine. And if your child receives a vaccine and is around someone that is immunocompromised, chances are that, that child’s parents have taken the necessary precautions. Every year during flu season when lets just pick a number and say thousands of children are receive their flu vaccine, do you see a follow-up news report about how many child cancer patients passed away due to being around someone who received a flu vaccine? No. I am all for soap boxes and even just standing up for what we believe is right. Sometimes it’s a matter of opinion so you do what’s best for your child, but what I beg and plead for is for people to do accurate and adequate research (and no Google) does not qualify unless you have the foundation to sort through and navigate. As an RN I see so many bogus studies and statistics posted and a Dr. said this about the battle right now with high fructose corn syrup,”If you want to confuse and make the American people look dumb simply hit them with mass amounts of confusion in the media in all medium forms.” And it is so true. We have people in uproars(sadly due to misinformation) about this and the truth is that are there risks associated with vaccinations? yes, there are risks associated with everything we do, so the as all of us being caring loving parents who all truthfully want the same thing and that is a happy, healthy and protected child or even ourselves, so the true question becomes what are those risks, Is there away to decrease those risks, is there anything that could make them higher (such as giving them all their injections at one time to rush because we decided on public school) and at the same time thinking beyond ourselves to a bigger picture and that is the reason these were created. They were created to keep the masses from these illness’ that are now preventable for the most part or if contracted drastically decrease symptoms and increase survival rates. Otherwise we’d have to ask ourselves, all of the money that we put in as communities and as individuals for different causes like (and I’m just going to pick one) Cancer. Once they find cures why do we not find these same arguments?

      1. April: There is in fact a very good study linking the MMR to autism,. conducted in-house by our very own CDC. It was begun in 1999 by a team led by Dr. Frank DeStefano, specifically to test the Wakefield hypothesis. The results shocked them: they found a 256% increased risk for autism in African American boys given the MMR prior to 36 months (the age at which the brain is fully developed, and thus better able to withstand toxic insults), and a 72% increased risk for isolated autism among all boys. They knew perfectly well they had to do something about these shocking findings, so they spent more than a year making the findings go away, largely by eliminating from the results a large percentage of the study participants. The coauthors then met in a conference room and threw all the incriminating data into a big garbage can. They shopped the resulting paper around to scientific journals, but couldn’t get any of them to publish it, so they twisted the arm of the Pediatrics (the trade publication of the AAP) editors, who published it in 2004. This is egregious scientific fraud. We only know about it because one of the coauthors (there were five) by the name of Dr. William S. Thompson, ultimately felt remorseful (he had retained copies of all the data, knowing that trashing it was clearly illegal and unethical), hired a whistleblower attorney, and turned the documentation over to Congressman Bill Posey. There it sits. Representative Posey has been trying to get Congress to hold hearings, but they are too cowardly, and they work for pharma, anyway. In my childhood (the 1950’s), there were no food allergies, and asthma was extremely rare. ADD and ADHD did not exist. Autism was almost unheard of, and rates of learning disabilities were very low, mostly among the mal-nourished. We all got measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox, which gave us the gift of a robust immune system, one of the keys to lifelong good health. I must surmise, April, that you haven’t lived long enough to be as cynical as I am, but it is clear to me that the purpose of vaccination is profit. Study the history of medicine and you will see that it has been mostly quackery. This continues to this day. Pharmaceuticals are immensely profitable, and vaccines are their growth industry.

      2. April, I simply reblogged this blog. I did not write it. I do not vaccinate my children, because I have done my own research. Oddly enough I have taken into account everything you have said and I have made my own informed decision. With the support of my child’s pediatrition. It most definitely is something that you can have an opinion on. I HATE when people say “do your own research, don’t ask Google”. Most of the updated research is all online. Do you do your research at a library? If you do chances are it isn’t as updated as the info that you can find online. I don’t want to argue with you, Becasue I do respect your opinion. Just know that you won’t change mine.

      3. April, I’m fascinated to know how you think we would say “hello small pox” when we stopped vaccinating for that in the early 1970’s (aside from certain military personnel today). I’m surprised that as a registered nurse you wouldn’t be aware of that.
I would highly recommend the book ‘Dissolving Illusions’ by Dr. Suzanne Humphries. I think you would enjoy it.

      4. Gary independent research and studies have shown time and time again that no vaccine, not even MMR causes autism.
In fact an Autism study has found that in most cases ( from memory was about 70%) is genetic.
Another study has found that parent age plays a large part too.
As more and more of us are having kids later in life … the number of cases is increasing.

So drop the MMR-autism argument. It has been thrown out more than once.
Instead of wasting time and resources on proving something we have already proven several times … lets use this time and energy into determining the true causes of autism.

      5. Rachel: Vaccines are immensely profitable-$30 billion in sales in 2015, projected to reach $100 billion by 2020, as Pharma buys the rest of the state legislatures and the WHO. They’ve already fully bought the DHHS. They face no liability (the taxpayers have been the source of funding for the $3 billion in compensation paid to vaccine-injured children and adults since FY 1988 by the Court of Special Masters in Washington D.C.). They have minimal development and production costs (many vaccines are now made in China), and a marketers dream: mandates everywhere, and no advertising budget needed, no sales force needed! According to Dr. Phil Minor, the top vaccine safety official in the UK, vaccines are crude, primitive, and heavily contaminated (source: the transcript of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Committee Meeting, November 19th, 1998). The VRBPC is a part of the FDA. Vaccination is, and always has been, dangerous quackery, and our children have never been so sick. Anyone who thinks Pharma has any other interest than profit, or that our government works for the people rather than industry, I have some swamp land in Florida you might be interested in.

      6. Gary I never said vaccines were not profitable. Obviously they are. They HAVE to be otherwise manufacturers would not bother.
They are not that cheap to make either being the heaviest most regulated product on the market.
Vaccines are however a tiny profit share compared to the other drugs and products produced by pharmaceutical companies.
The choice to not vaccinate is and remains a 1st world country problem only. A choice parents have today afforded to them solely through the success and availability of vaccines and advances in healthcare.

The number of compensated due to vaccine injury is minute compared to the millions of vaccines safely administered safely. Using compensation figures these are 0.003% of those vaccinated end in injury. Minute!!!
Care to take a guess at what the figures would be if the same number of ppl (the number of vaccinations) were instead exposed to disease. How many dead? How many permanently disabled? I can guarantee it would be a figure far greater than 0.003%

Obviously vaccine carry risk. Just like ANY medical product or procedure. Even alternative products or even food.

      7. One of the worst smallpox epidemics of all time took place in England between 1870 and 1872 – nearly two decades after compulsory vaccination was introduced. After this evidence that smallpox vaccination didn’t work the people of Leicester in the English Midlands refused to have the vaccine any more. When the next smallpox epidemic struck in the early 1890s the people of Leicester relied upon good sanitation and a system of quarantine. There was only one death from smallpox in Leicester during that epidemic. In contrast the citizens of other towns (who had been vaccinated) died in vast numbers. Obligatory vaccination against smallpox was introduced in Germany as a result of state by-laws, but these vaccination programmes had no influence on the incidence of the disease. On the contrary, the smallpox epidemic continued to grow and in 1870 Germany had the gravest smallpox epidemic in its history. At that point the new German Reich introduced a new national law making vaccination against smallpox an even stricter legal requirement. The police were given the power to enforce the new law. German doctors (and medical students) are taught that it was the Reich Vaccination Law which led to a dramatic reduction in the incidence of smallpox in Germany. But a close look at the figures shows that the incidence of smallpox had already started to fall before the law came into action. And the legally enforced national smallpox vaccination programme did not eradicate the disease. Doctors and drug companies may not like it but the truth is that surveillance, quarantine and better living conditions got rid of smallpox – not the smallpox vaccine. When the international campaign to rid the world of smallpox was at its height the number of cases of smallpox went up each time there was a large scale (and expensive) mass vaccination of populations in susceptible countries. As a result of this the strategy was changed. Mass vaccination programmes were abandoned and replaced with surveillance, isolation and quarantine. The myth that smallpox was eradicated through a mass vaccination programme is just that – a myth. Smallpox was eradicated through identifying and isolating patients with the disease. Jenner’s work may have helped end smallpox’s reign of terror (though better living conditions played a far more important part), but vaccination has been subsequently wildly over-promoted and over-used to prevent far less threatening disorders. Vaccinators have extrapolated from Jenner’s work and built a multistorey building on nothing more substantial than a clumsily thrown together dung heap. Those whose enthusiasm for vaccination remains undimmed should perhaps be aware that Jenner himself had his own reservations. He tried out the first smallpox vaccination on his own 10-month-old son. Tragically, his son remained mentally retarded until his death at the age of 21. Jenner, the revered hero of pro-vaccination freaks, refused to have his second child vaccinated. Curiously, the doctors who talk so knowledgeably about Jenner’s work on vaccination never seem to know any of this stuff. The profession which had originally rejected Jenner’s discovery as too dangerous, embraced it with diminishing reservations and unbridled enthusiasms, ignoring the risks and side effects as the profits to be made (both by the manufacturing industry and the medical profession) grew and grew; the glimpse of unending profits encouraging the development of too many vaccines which were neither effective nor safe. As a postscript I should mention that when Louis XV contracted smallpox he is said to have survived only because his nurse hid him from the doctors who had killed his father and brother with their `treatments’. Wise nurse.

    1. Ryan, It’s wonderful that your Aspbergers hasn’t ruined your life, but you do realize that that isn’t always the case, don’t you?

Just do search on videos of children before and after vaccination to see just what happens to many children who are genetically a inclined to suffer injury with the right environmental trigger. It’s so easy for fans of vaccines to ignore that these children change suddenly after vaccination, or that they even exist. Maybe a video will be a little harder to ignore than the many heart-wrenching stories people tell.

    2. This would be amusing if it weren’t so lame and silly. Got news for you, E: Like many diseases, an ASD diagnosis is based upon the presenting symptoms. One of the sequalae of encephalopathy is an ASD diagnosis. In fact there are at least dozens who have been compensated in the Court of Special Masters for just this train of events: vaccination, followed by encephalopathy, followed by an ASD diagnosis. What, pray tell, is the name of this disease which has “SYMPTOMS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO AUTISM?” The Sanofi Pasteur vaccine Tripedia (DPT) lists autism as a reported adverse event on the package insert (p. 11). In the clinical trials for the GSK vaccine infanrix hexa, five of the 466 children received a diagnosis of autism from the vaccine, a rate of 1.2%, about the same as the U. S. rate for autism in 2012. It is the hard-working parents of these damaged children, and the children themselves who deserve mercy, who deserve the same dignity and respect that all of us do.

  2. I just put my 3 year old(unvaccinated) girl in preschool… And I’m worried about vaccine shedding… I mean I can’t know which kids just got vaccinated, so I can’t avoid them… And I’m afraid if she does contract measles for ex from a freshly vaccinated kid, I am the one who will be blamed. Thoughts?

    1. Amanda, It’s hard to know how often people get the disease from a vaccinated person, because if the CDC bothers to check on this rather than just assume it’s being spread by the unvaccinated, they probably would never dream of reporting to the public that it was caused by a vaxxed person. I am pretty sure, however, that if your child gets the measles your not vaccinating will be blamed. You see, if an unvaccinated person gets the disease, or a vaccinated person gets the disease, either way the unvaccinated will be blamed, regardless of who it originated with.

You know you don’t have to take your child to the doctor’s for something like the measles, mumps, or chicken pox. Esp. If you don’t have doctor who hasn’t lost their common sense amongst all of the propaganda. If you don’t have one like that, you should try to find one before your child gets sick. The best way to find a pro-vaccine choice doctor is to ask around. A pediatrician is the worst because their main focus is to vaccinate. As far as treating these benign childhood diseases, a good book to consult is “How to Raise A Healthy Child; In Spite of Your Doctor,” by Dr. Robert Mendelssohn. He was a pediatrician for 30 years, and started before the Big Pharma-induced medical paradigm shift from helping patients heal to drugging them to stop the symptoms. He is one of the few who maintained this commonsense approach to health. He goes into each “vaccine- preventable” disease and how to treat them. Most of them don’t require a doctor’s visit unless there is a rare complication, and he talks about those too. Don’t be scared because of the hype. Everyone got these diseases when I was a kid and no one thought they were a big deal, not the scientists, not the doctors, NO ONE–until they saw there was money to be made on the vaccines. Even with polio, probably the one most feared, 75% of those who get it have no symptoms, 24% have minor flu-like symptoms for a short time, and only 1% get paralytic polio, and many of those recover fully. When you see the actual statistics rather than listening to the hype, you see that the vast majority of children will have no problems with these diseases. (Although, one good reason to see a doctor is to get it documented that your child had the disease so that’s one less VAX they’ll try to force on you.)

      1. Its only a rash, as you stated multiple tines in your article, so why worry? I thank you for your rant on this subject, since your ‘movement’ started getting national steam, parents and grand parents now are getting wooping cough vaccine, because unvaxxed kids are bringing it back, hard. Whooping cough IS deadly. And even though measles isnt “deadly” it can cause high fevers 104 and higher that can and will cause brain damage or death. Oh and by the way since your a “fact checker” 1980s before wide spread world wide vaccination efforts, 2.4 million people died, 90s to 554k, and now 95k. Its can be deadly if people under 5 contract it. Oh and its airbourne so its easily contractable.

Mumps, its only painful. Like really inconsolable baby for a month painful with swelling reproductive organs, that granted will unlikely cause infertility, but is painful!

Rhubella, its just another little rash.

meningitis Can kill a healthy adult in 48 hrs, even with agreasive medical Treatment.

Polio well its not that bad FDR had polio, he couldnt use his legs, but you know he was president, and he kicked Hitlers mustached behind!

Now some of these are RARE polio is one of them, but an outbreak in 2012 in Syria, caused more interest in the vaccine of an irradicated disease.

Do what you want, its America, land of the free! But dont be upset when YOU cant bring YOUR unvaxxed kid cant come over and play because they have a temp of >104 from “just a rash”.

By the way how moral high horse can you be suggesting aspergers ruins lives is a bit judgemental and backhanded. Most people with aspergers have full exceptional lives.

      2. It doesn’t matter much to me at all if you choose to believe the misrepresented figures and outright lies and give your child every vaccine they come up with. My only problem is that the misinformation is causing politicians to take away my choice, and causing misinformed people like you to support the government in doing that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t waste my precious time arguing with people who take the CDC’s and WHO’s, and misinformed doctors’ word instead of actually going through the medical history books, and vital statistic records themselves. Yes, it’s very time consuming, but since it’s your child’s health and wellbeing at stake, I’d think it’s worth it!

      1. Not so, Stu. Even Merck’s MMR vaccine insert states “Excretion of small amounts of the live attenuated rubella virus from the nose and throat has occurred in the majority of susceptible individuals 7 to 28 days after vaccination.”. Of course they try to make light of that fact by adding, “Consequently, transmission through close personal contact, while accepted as a theoretical possibility, is not regarded as a significant risk.”

While I admit that there are other live vaccines that seem to shed and transmit the disease a lot more, (like the Flumist spray, oral polio vaccine–still used in 3rd world countries–the smallpox vaccine, still given to active duty military members and reported to have caused smallpox in some family members, and the rotavirus vax, but keep in mind that there is no active surveillance and testing for evidence of vaccine strain live virus shedding, transmission and infection among populations routinely being given multiple doses of live virus vaccines, including the measles vaccine. So, no one is looking to see how often shedding leads to transmission. It’s more beneficial to promoting the vaccine business to assume the disease is always caused by the unvaccinated.

By the way, in case you didn’t know this, the aftercare literature given to chemo patients at some hospitals say to avoid those recently given a live vaccine for several weeks, neonatal units do not allow those recently given a live vaccine to visit the babies, and the Red Cross won’t let you donate blood if you’ve just received a live vaccine. Without an active surveillance program we have no way of knowing just how often shedding leads to the disease, but there is no question that a live virus, like the MMR, can shed.

    2. Well, for starters, she may have trouble getting into many colleges down the line without an MMR vaccine. When we enrolled our son at RIT this fall, all vaccinations were optional except the MMR, which is a non-negotiable requirement for admission. Our girls both go to an Ivy League school that also requires the student be vaccinated. Same thing at NYU two years ago. And they don’t just ask you to fill out a form with dates anymore. They know people lie about it, so they require that the doctor fax or send the form by mail directly to them. So if you want your child to go to college, you’d better prepare for some major headaches if you make this choice now. I have raised three kids, and I would rather have taken the tiny chance that there would be a reaction to a vaccination, than send my unvaccinated child out into a world where other unvaccinated children were present–I would have been worrying all the time throughout their childhood, instead of fretting a few times early on when vaccinating them. If any of my children had had a serious reaction to any of those vaccines, I would have taken some comfort knowing that it occurred when I was trying to take whateved precautions I could. On the other hand, if any of them had become seriously ill or worse because I had not vaccinated them when the oppotunity was readily available, I think I could not have lived with myself. Look at it this way: we get into cars every day, knowing that there is a small chance that we could be killed before we get back home, but I don’t see people remaining at home because they are worried about the risk. Life is full of all kinds of small risks, and while I wouldn’t berate a parent for not vaccinating, I do believe they are taking a larger risk by not doing so ,when all is said and done. Hundreds of millions of children have been vaccinated in the past half-century, and (I don’t mean to trivialize this by any means, but it’s true) even if tens of thousands of them have experienced a serious reaction in that time, that still places your risk at a tiny fraction of one percent. Regardless of all the broo-ha-ha over anecdotal horror stories, the Federal government, the CDC, unfair laws and their intrusion into our lives, I’m grateful that we live in a time when we don’ have to watch our children die from one of these diseases.

    1. Ask around. That’s how I found mine when I moved here. I just asked everyone if they knew of any doctors who wouldn’t push me to vaccinate. Then when she left the state, I asked her to refer me to someone and she did. I’ve had no problems. But, my son hasn’t been to the doctor’s since the orchestrated hysteria broke out.

  3. You do realize that a woman died from the measles the other day, right? Plus there have been outbreaks of diseases like measles and whooping cough because of misinformed nutjobs like you who refuse to vaccinate. Why didn’t we have any problems in the past 3 generations when everyone got vaccinated before that “study” about autism (which has been proven was a huge lie) didn’t exist? Why didn’t our parents or grandparents have any problems? I’m 34 and my generation got vaccinated and hasn’t had any problems. Thiomersal has been removed from the MMSR vaccine and autism is STILL on the rise. So it’s not mercury causing autism. Fun fact, a tuna sandwich has several times MORE Mercury than the MMSR vaccine had. The “shedding” isn’t an issue either. If it were to shed to an unvaccinated person, that person wouldn’t get the full blown disease just like the vaccinated person wouldn’t get the full disease. The vaccinated person received a higher dose of the pathogen and they’re fine, so why would someone who got a trace of it get even the same amount as the vaccinated person? If I have 50 pennies and give you 1 penny, it doesn’t mean you get 50 pennies. Finally, if your kid had cancer, you shouldn’t expose them to the public anyway. Vaccines should be the least of your concerns if your kid has cancer. You should be more worried about the general public being around your kid. Things like the flu, colds, staph, bacterial, and viral infections of all kinds are WAY more dangerous for your sick child than a “shedding vaccine”.

PS- It’s nutjobs like you who are causing outbreaks of diseases that we’re practically nonexistent in this country for decades.

    2. Respectfully speaking you are very uninformed. Firstly perhaps you were unaware But Merek is being sued for manipulating their data for the MMR vaccine. IF vaccines are all what they say they are then why are they legally shielded from lawsuit if you or your child is injured?? No matter what side of the fence one stands on ergo “pro vaccine” or “anti-vaccine” one must asses this fact. WOULD YOU Buy something from the company that “promise you everything” and “guaranteed to be 100% safe and effective” while at the same time that Company has legal shield from the government that says you cannot sue them if you were injured from that product? WOULD YOU PUT ALL YOUR TRUST any company that has no moral legal or ethical accountability if their product harmed you?

    3. Intelligent people state their facts and present ideas without resorting to calling people names. It shows a great deal about who you are. The MMR/autism link was not disproven in any way at all and in fact the link is gaining strength and momentum. I know you believe what you believe because that’s what doctors have been trained to believe and they’ve passed that on to you. It’s great that you’re concerned with this issue – so take it a step further now and do some research. It will make your hair stand on end. When the CDC does a study on a vaccine, they slant the whole thing to get the results they WANT as opposed to true results. They do the same with doctors who present real and viable cures for cancer – the CDC fudges the study by changing measurements and amounts to “prove” the cure doesn’t work. I used to be pro-vax because I never dreamed the medical community could be so bought by pharma and those in it only for the money. Your best interest is NOT their interest.

  4. Seeing how I’m a kid, 15 years old about to be 16. I’ve literally never experience any sort of Austim or deadly side effects from a shot.

So far only side effect I’ve ever got from a shot was the chicken pocks one and it was basically a minor break out of chicken pocks because the shot basically has a small amount of the virus inside of it so your immune system can learn to deal with it and destory the bacteria.

They don’t just give us shots for no darn reason, seriously I rather be vaccinated then be walking around and catching some dim witted kids parents flu, because they couldn’t risk it or…the government is trying to control us or whatever some weird crap they literally themself convince is true.

Now as I said previously they do insert the virus in your child in a small dosage, that is true and obviously makes sense if a child who was sickly could die from such causes because any sorta bacteria of any amount in a weak person immune system would utterly destory them.

Just as if you did it in a old person with a weak immune system. Also, Austim isn’t caused by vaccations….That is literally how diseases/disorders work. Anything can trigger a gene you do realize that right? Someone could always have had Austim and gotten in a car wreck and that trama would’ve cause a chemical reaction.

ITS LIKE ADULTS need to go back to school, like they forgot sicence works and the basic three things to have a very good arguments point, that no one could prowl and pounce on you for it. If you just have the simplest of litature skills; The logical, logical fallacy. Logic in general.

For Christ sakes it’s like you guys think medical science is witchcraft and we’re in some age were we whip slaves still and cut each other’s limps off if it’s infected. Seriously have you ever let your child choose to get vaccinated, or are you all biggots in general?

Your kid will always be in risk, no matter what. All sorts of germs are wiggling around and your children love putting dirty fingers in their mouths.

I’m leaving it at here I can’t even explain the outrage I have with most adults now of days who are the literal defention of stupid and naive bunches of crazy.

    1. You have a lot of studying to do. Have you ever ridden in a car? Have you died? Then it’s impossible to die or be in a car crash right? Try to use logic when thinking.. juts because you survived doesn’t mean someone else didn’t die and people ARE dying due to vaccines. It’s a an indisputable fact.

    2. Yes, we very well see your point but also understand that just because YOU “survived” your vaccine shots, doesn’t mean everyone will. You’ve obviously been outside, for a walk, or walking to the car, and things, right? You do understand that some people can: get hit by a car, shot, anything. And you obviously haven’t, right?
YOUR experience isn’t the only experience in the world. I admit, I’m only eleven, going on twelve: what do I know?
But you know what I DO know? I know that a) your experience isn’t the only experience ever, b) calling people “stupid and naïve bunches of crazy” won’t help you get your point across, and c) I don’t think you’re qualified to answer this question considering you are not a parent, and obviously haven’t done your research.
Again, I admit, I’m not qualified to answer either, and I’m not sure myself which is true: I suspect the point that Lazarus T. Jones made, but media has influenced me to believe the other way.
And look at me: I’m not giving any suggestions because I haven’t done my research and am not a parent.
If I had to give you any advice, it would be: don’t answer a question when you don’t have the correct knowledge OR experience.
      Thank you.

  5. My closest friend is an ER doc. He frequently sees parents coming in with their sick child. The child is unvaccinated and the parents are terrified that the kid has contracted one of the disease that the kid is not protected against. And often, the child IS sick with whooping cough or something even more serious.

Seeing your kid on an IV surrounded by doctors, crying in pain, is enough to change the mind of the most committed anti-vaxers. These parents suffer a tremendous sense of guilt, particularly when their child suffers permanent injury from their illness (like kidney damage). An injury that could have been prevented, if the parents hadn’t been so scared of “chemicals.”

Unfortunately, there’s no vaccine to erase this type of permanent damage. If there was, the parents would jump at it, I’m sure.

    1. Unfortunately you’re wrong and still have a “mote” in your eye blinding you. Compare the number of children who die from vaccine injuries to the children who die from the diseases you’re saying we’re protected against. The evidence is clear. But even more clear is that you have not done ANY research, or you’d know that vaccines have never been tested or shown to protect against any of the illnesses they are designed for. Children with the measles vaccine get measles. Mothers who get the whooping cough vaccine give the illness to their children. Virus shedding from vaccines is very real. I urge you to do your homework.

    2. How guilty would you feel if you took your healthy child in to be injected with known neurotoxins and animal cells that sometimes have unknown and undetected viruses in them, and your child was one of the kids who either die or become permanently disabled from the vaccine? Healthy children have no problem fighting off these diseases as they did for the years between when nutrition and sanitation caused the deaths to plummet by up to 99% and the time vaccines were developed. I was around before the vaccines were widely used, and many hadn’t even been developed, and no one thought these “childhood diseases,” as they were known, were any big deal. It was rare for people to die from them after the early 1900’s. Unfortunately, doctors are brainwashed in med school and actually know very little about vaccines. Thanks to the CDC scientist-turned-whistleblower, and the movie made about him (Vaxxed), the truth about vaccines is coming out very quickly. You’ll know soon enough how wrong you are.

      1. How guilty would you feel if your child was one of those that caught one of the diseases and developped lasting complications from it?? Knowing that there was something you could have done to prevent it in the first place?
Worse yet how would you feel if your child caught a disease, spread it to a baby too young to be immunised, and that baby ended up dying??

Vaccine reactions are devastating and in some cases life lasting! But the risk is still minuscule compared to the alternative of disease.

To put this into figures for you:
There are about 4 million births in the US every year.
Measles being one of the most contagious diseases with a near 100% contagion rate.
Lets say none of the population gets vaccinated.
        That would equate to:
        4000 – 8000 deaths
4000 will develop encephalitis that can result in convulsions, deafness and intellectual disability
40 would be at risk of developing Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) which is fatal sometimes up to 10 years after contracting measles.

Would you be happy living with figures like this??

Vaccines in contrast have a less than 1: 1 million risk of serious reaction.
So for a population of 4 million kids, you could expect less than 4 serious reactions

Now tell me which one is the greater risk?

  7. Why would the CDC of all places want to manipulate results? Not only that, they just can’t do that. These are peer reviewed scientific articles, they are backed up by data and subjected to literally dozens of reviews by the harshest and least believing people on the planet (other scientists).

This whole thing reeks of paranoia and ignorance. Cite a study. Or go to a library to read an actual journal article.

    1. The CDC wants to manipulate results for two reasons. They buy, and resell a majority of the vaccines from the pharmaceutical industry. And, because they have known about mercury, in particular, causing many severe health issues and have covered that data up; to be caught in this lie, would leave them open to law suits, and probably destroy the CDC overall.

Here are some excerpts from a congressional report from 2003, after Congress investigated the connection between mercury and autism, and fraud claims against the CDC and FDA:

“VII EVIDENCE OF ETHYL MERCURY’S TOXICITY WAS NEGLECTED BY MANUFACTURERS AND FEDERAL REGULATORS FOR YEARS.

      A. Introduction

Evidence of ethylmercury’s toxicity was available to Federal regulators and the private sector almost from the product’s inception. For far too long, both neglected this evidence. Despite evidence dating to the 1930s that ethylmercury in medicines was potentially hazardous, little was done to remove it from a number of products until the 1980’s. Even then, regulatory actions to remove thimerosal and other mercury compounds from medical products proceeded at a glacial pace.”

The report talks about how Eli Lilly, the pharm. co. that developed Thimerosal, knew from the start that it wasn’t safe:

“B. Thimerosal manufacturers accumulated evidence of the toxicity of thimerosal Eli Lilly and Company of Indianapolis licensed thimerosal in 1930. It was marketed under the brand name ‘‘Merthiolate.’’ It was used extensively both in topical ointments to prevent infections and as a preservative in a variety of medicines. However, it now appears that very little research on the safety
or effectiveness of thimerosal was ever done.”

      and:

“A review of internal Eli Lilly documents dating back 70 years suggests that the only study of thimerosal involving human subjects was done prior to 1930. For the next seven decades, Lilly spokespeople would refer to that original study as evidence of thimerosal’s safety. However, it is now clear that this uncontrolled study was woefully inadequate.”

“A September 1934, paper from Lilly’s files states: ‘‘Little is known about the effect of mercuric compounds when inoculated into humans. It is therefore preferable to use the minimum amount of this preservative necessary to maintain the sterility of the product.’’

“An August 1973, memo entitled, ‘‘Merthiolate Toxicity,’’ acknowledged:
‘‘The effects of long-term, intravenous use in man is not known, no long-term toxicity tests have been performed.’’

Perhaps more disturbing is that Lilly’s files contained numerous papers and reports documenting the toxicity and hypersensitivity of Merthiolate. Although these papers and case reports strongly suggested the need for much more research, there apparently was little follow-up.”

And, this on the FDA’s inactivity even though they knew about the inefficacy and danger of thimerosal:

“C. The FDA was painfully slow to require the removal of mercury from over-the-counter
      (OTC) products.

In 1974, the FDA undertook a comprehensive review of the safety and effectiveness of
over-the-counter medicines. As one facet of this review, a panel of experts was assembled
to review the safety and efficacy of over-the-counter drugs containing mercury. The Advi-
sory Review Panel on OTC Miscellaneous External Drug Products began this review in
      1975.

In 1980, the panel delivered its report to the FDA. It reviewed 18 products containing mercury, and found them all either unsafe or ineffective for their stated purpose of killing bacteria to prevent infections. In terms of effectiveness, the panel stated that, ‘‘mercury compounds as a class are of
dubious value for anti-microbial use.’’ They stated that, ‘‘mercury inhibits the growth of bacteria, but does not act swiftly to kill them.’’ In fact, the panel cited a 1935 study of the effectiveness of thimerosal in killing staphylococcus bacteria on chick heart tissue. The study determined that thimerosal was 35 times more toxic to the heart tissue it was meant to protect than the bacteria it
      was meant to kill.”

      and:

“D. The FDA’s actions to remove mercury from over-the-counter products should have
prompted a review of mercury in vaccines. It is difficult to understand why it took
the FDA 18 years to remove mercury from over-the-counter products. It is equally difficult to understand why the expert panel’s 1980 findings on thimerosal’s safety in topical ointments did not prompt the FDA to further and immediately review the use of thimerosal in vaccines. Surely there must have been concern that if it was not safe to apply ethylmercury to the surface of an individual’s skin, it might not be safe to inject ethylmercury deep into an infant’s tissue. ”

“E. Federal regulators moved too slowly to remove thimerosal from vaccines

Once the FDA did initiate its review of mercury in vaccines, it kicked off a vigorous debate among Federal regulators over the dangers of using thimerosal in childhood vaccines. This debate, which at times pitted one health-care bureaucracy against another, spanned nearly three years. Given the
fact that almost twenty years had passed since an expert panel had determined that thimerosal was unsafe in topical ointments, it is surprising that there was any further debate at all.

There was tremendous reluctance on the part of some officials to admit that a mistake had been made in allowing ethylmercury to be used in vaccines. There was great uncertainty in others caused by the lack of data specifically on ethylmercury. However, the institutional resistance to change was counter-balanced by the growing realization that there was more ethylmercury in childhood vaccines than previously thought, and that nobody had thought to calculate the cumulative amounts. The essence of the debate was captured in a 1999 e-mail from a former FDA official weighing the pros and cons of taking action.

He opined that hastening the removal of thimerosal from vaccines would:

‘‘. . . raise questions about FDA being ‘asleep at the switch’ for decades by allowing a potentially hazardous compound to remain in many childhood vaccines, and not forcing manufacturers to exclude it from new products. It will also raise questions about various advisory bodies regarding aggressive recommendations for use. (We must keep in mind that the dose of ethylmercury was not
generated by ‘rocket science’. Conversion of the percentage thimerosal to actual micrograms of mercury involves ninth grade algebra. What took the FDA so long to do the calculations? Why didn’t CDC and the advisory bodies do these calculations when they rapidly expanded the childhood immu-
      nization schedule?)’’

“The FDA produced to the Committee two charts developed from that model dated June 28, 1999. Both charts demonstrate what has now become widely acknowledged, that most children in the
1990s received doses of ethylmercury in their vaccines that exceeded the EPA’s limits for exposure to methylmercury (0.1 micrograms per kilogram) for at least the first six months of their lives. Even more significantly, the charts also indicate that most children received doses of ethylmercury that
exceeded the FDA’s less-restrictive limits (0.4 micrograms per kilogram) for at least the first two months of their lives.

Federal officials have never publicly acknowledged this second fact. In public statements and Congressional testimony, they have acknowledged only that the EPA’s lower limit was exceeded, even though simple math makes clear that most infants also breached the FDA’s higher limit of 0.4
      micrograms per kilogram.

Dr. Neal Halsey, Director of the Institute of Vaccine Safety at Johns Hopkins University, acknowledged this important fact, however. He stated:

‘‘In the past few days, I have become aware that the amount of thimerosal in most hepatitis B, DTaP and Hib vaccines that we administer to infants results in a total dose of mercury that exceeds the maximum exposure recommended by the EPA, the FDA, CDC and WHO . . .’’

Dr. Halsey’s admission that more than just the EPA’s more conservative guideline was exceeded is a significant departure from the public statements of most Federal officials.”

“Another noteworthy fact is that the charts produced by Dr. Rumack, and the FDA’s analysis in general, failed to take into consideration the background levels of mercury to which children are exposed from other sources.”

Another government agency who put the vaccine policy above public health was the Public Service Commission:

“The issue of what to do with thimerosal in vaccines came to a head in the summer of
1999. In June and July, a series of meetings were held involving the FDA, the CDC, the
Public Health Service, the American Association of Pediatricians, and other agencies.
Documents reviewed by the Committee indicate that the Public Health Service opposed a public effort to remove thimerosal from vaccines.

One FDA document stated that the Public Health Service was concerned that stating a preference for thimerosal-free vaccines could ‘‘result in unwarranted loss of confidence in immunization programs in the US and internationally, shortages of childhood vaccines might ensue, and other potential far-reaching ramifications are envisioned.’’

In a July 2, 1999, e-mail, Dr. Ruth Etzel of the Department of Agriculture also noted the Public Health Service’s resistance:

‘‘We must follow the three basic rules:

      (1) act quickly to inform pediatricians that the products have more mercury than we realized;
      (2) be open with consumers about why we didn’t catch this earlier;
      (3) show contrition.

As you know, the Public Health Service informed us yesterday that they were planning to conduct business as usual, and would probably indicate no preference for either product. While the Public Health Service may think that their ‘product’ is immunizations, I think their ‘product’ is their recommendations. If the public loses faith in the PHS recommendations, then the immunization battle will falter. To keep faith, we must be open and honest now and move forward quickly to replace these products.’’

Adding to the pressure on the Federal government to act was the fact that steps were being taken in Europe to remove thimerosal from vaccines.”

The CDC also clearly chose to put the vaccine policy, and their reputation in pushing these vaccines, ahead of public safety:

In June of 2000, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practice met in Atlanta [Simpsonwood]. Among other things, the Advisory Committee was called upon to recommend
whether the CDC should issue a public statement of preference for thimerosal-free vaccines. At the time, the industry was in the midst of its transition to thimerosal-free childhood vaccines, and several vaccines containing thimerosal were still on the market.

Of particular concern was the DTaP vaccine. In June of 2000, three of the four DTaP man-
ufacturers (Aventis Pasteur, North American Vaccine and Wyeth) were still producing DTaP with thimerosal. Only SmithKline Beecham produced a thimerosal-free DTaP.
In addition, because manufacturers of the Hib and Hepatitis B vaccines had just recently converted to formulas that were thimerosal-free or contained trace amounts of thimerosal, older versions of these vaccines containing thimerosal were still in inventories and being used around the country.

A statement of preference by the CDC would have been a clear signal to pediatricians not to use vaccines containing thimerosal, when thimerosal-free versions were available. This action would have substantially reduced the exposure to ethylmercury for many infants. Despite this knowledge,
the advisory committee voted unanimously not to state a preference.

CDC officials guided the Advisory Committee toward this conclusion. For example,
while three different options were presented to the Advisory Committee members, a de-
tailed policy statement to be issued to the public had been prepared for only one of these options—a statement of no preference.

In describing the three options, Dr. Roger Bernier of the CDC clearly indicated the CDC’s desire not to state a preference for thimerosal-free vaccines.”

This decision was also motivated by their financial interests:

“However, one of the factors that were also considered was the financial health of the vaccine industry. In describing the pros and cons of each option, Dr. Bernier returned several times to financial issues:

‘‘We think that having this type of a more staged transition reduces the potential for financial losses of existing inventories, and is somewhat akin to what was done in the transition from oral polio to inactivated polio . . .’’

      * * * * *
‘‘It could entail financial losses of inventory if current vaccine inventory is wasted.
It could harm one or more manufacturers and may then decrease the number of suppliers.’’

      * * * * *

‘‘The evidence justifying this kind of abrupt policy change does not appear to exist, and it could entail financial losses for all existing stocks of vaccines that contain thimerosal.’’

The financial health of the industry should never have been a factor in this decision. The financial health of vaccine manufacturers certainly should never have been more important to the Federal health officials than the health and well being and the nation’s children. The CDC has a esponsibility to protect the health of the American public. If there were any doubts about the neurological effects of ethylmercury in vaccines on children—and there were substantial doubts—the prevailing consideration should have been how best to protect children from potential harm ”

      And:

“In opting not to state a preference for thimerosal-free vaccines, the Advisory Committee shrugged off two sensible proposals that were presented during the meeting.

[1] A representative of SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline) stated that her company could supply sufficient amounts of thimerosal-free DTaP vaccine to ensure that the youngest infants receiving the initial doses of DTaP could receive thimerosal-free doses:

‘‘I think it’s important that you know that, although we cannot supply the entire U.S. market right now for all five doses immediately, we would be able to supply the vast majority of the U.S. market for the primary series, that is with targeting of the first three doses.’

[2] Later in the discussion, Dr. Neal Halsey made another suggestion that would limit the exposure of infants to ethylmercury. He suggested that the Advisory Committee adopt a policy that no child should receive more than one thimerosal-containing vaccine per day

Again, it appears that this seemingly sensible proposal received no serious consideration.

One year later, in June of 2001, the Advisory Committee again rejected the idea of expressing a preference for thimerosal-free vaccines, despite the fact that all manufacturers of Hib, Hepatitis B and DTaP had shifted to thimerosal-free products at that point. The CDC’s decision not to express a
preference for thimerosal-free vaccines, and the Advisory Committee’s concurrence in this policy, was an abdication of their responsibility. As a result of their inaction, children continued to receive vaccinations containing ethylmercury at a time when there were serious doubts about its safety. ”

In interest of time and space, I won’t post any more of the damaging findings in the Congressional report on the investigation of the dangers of mercury and the behavior of the government agencies charged with protecting public health that ranged from ineptitude to criminal negligence.

So, yes, the CDC and other agencies CAN and DO alter data, and leave data out. Just a cursory look at medical and scientific history will show you that this often happens. In addition to this, it is fairly well-known that epidemiological studies are very easily manipulated to show any results you’d like. Also, it is also well-known that at least half of the “peer-reviewed studies and articles” are biased, fraudulent, and/or politically motivated. Here are some links about this:

      http://www.journal-surgery.net/article/S1743-9191%2806%2900047-1/fulltext#sec3

From this article in a medical journal about fraud:

“Potentially dubious practices in medical research

      Plagiarism

Plagiarism can range from the unreferenced use of others’ published or unpublished ideas to submission under ‘new’ authorship of a complete paper, sometimes in a different language.

      Forging

Forging is the invention of some or all of the research data that are reported, including the description of experiments that were never performed. Cases of forging have been well publicised in the past.

      Cooking

Cooking refers to retaining and analysing only those results that support the hypothesis being investigated and ignoring data which may weaken the results.

      Trimming

Trimming involves smoothing the irregularities in the data to make the results look more convincing for publication.

      Misuse of statistical techniques

Owing to the complexity of statistical analysis and the difficulty many researchers have with it, fraud and deceit can creep in unwittingly. With the ready availability of menu driven statistical software and lack of understanding of associated hypotheses and assumptions, improper techniques may be employed leading to misleading research.

      Irresponsible authorship

Multi-authored papers have become increasingly common over the past 10 years with some having up to 40 authors. Often ‘authorship’ has been granted for the need to accord recognition rather than due to any direct scientific contribution to the endeavour.

      Redundant publication

Redundant publication occurs when two or more papers, without cross reference, share the same hypothesis, data, discussion points or conclusions.”

In this article in the medical journal, The Lancet, they talk about the fraud that regularly occurs in studies, journals, universities, and with regard to individual scientists:

“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientifi c literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.

As one participant put it, “poor methods get results”. The Academy of Medical Sciences, Medical Research Council, and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council have now put
their reputational weight behind an investigation into these questionable research practices. The apparent endemicity of bad research behaviour is alarming. In their quest for telling a compelling story, scientists too often sculpt data to fit their preferred theory of the world. Or they retrofit hypotheses to fit their data.

Journal editors deserve their fair share of criticism too. We aid and abet the worst behaviours. Our acquiescence to the impact factor fuels an unhealthy competition to win a place in a select few
journals. Our love of “significance” pollutes the literature with many a statistical fairy-tale. We reject important confirmations.

Journals are not the only miscreants. Universities are in a perpetual struggle for money and
talent, endpoints that foster reductive metrics, such as high-impact publication. National assessment procedures, such as the Research Excellence Framework, incentivise bad practices.

And individual scientists, including their most senior leaders, do little to alter a research culture that
      occasionally veers close to misconduct.”

Here’s another National Institute of Health study about fraud in Journals:

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2964337/

      And:

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2964337/

      And:

      http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2009/jan/15/drug-companies-doctorsa-story-of-corruption/

“No one knows the total amount provided by drug companies to physicians, but I estimate from the annual reports of the top nine US drug companies that it comes to tens of billions of dollars a year. By such means, the pharmaceutical industry has gained enormous control over how doctors evaluate and use its own products. Its extensive ties to physicians, particularly senior faculty at prestigious medical schools, affect the results of research, the way medicine is practiced, and even the definition of what constitutes a disease. ”

“Consider the clinical trials by which drugs are tested in human subjects.5 Before a new drug can enter the market, its manufacturer must sponsor clinical trials to show the Food and Drug Administration that the drug is safe and effective, usually as compared with a placebo or dummy pill. The results of all the trials (there may be many) are submitted to the FDA, and if one or two trials are positive—that is, they show effectiveness without serious risk—the drug is usually approved, even if all the other trials are negative.”

“Because drug companies insist as a condition of providing funding that they be intimately involved in all aspects of the research they sponsor, they can easily introduce bias in order to make their drugs look better and safer than they are. Before the 1980s, they generally gave faculty investigators total responsibility for the conduct of the work, but now company employees or their agents often design the studies, perform the analysis, write the papers, and decide whether and in what form to publish the results. Sometimes the medical faculty who serve as investigators are little more than hired hands, supplying patients and collecting data according to instructions from the company.”

No offense, but it is truly naive to think that manipulation, politics, and even fraud does not occur within government health agencies, pharmaceutical companies, universities, the medical community and scientific community. Go back in history and read about what happened with the tobacco industry and their influence on government, scientists, doctors and media. They had everyone “convinced” that cigarettes weren’t additive and didn’t cause cancer. Only they were and they did. And the pharmaceutical industry is much more powerful and lucrative than the tobacco industry ever was.

    2. It’s a fact the cdc manipulated the MMR study. the CDC PROOVED MMR causes a 340% increase in autism. PROVEN… however whenthey present their study (the only one they had to lean on) they “hid” it in a book of stats which was not shared with the public. Their summary of the study stated does not cause autism.. yet inside their study it showed it did. The dr’s of that report asked the cdc what to do and they told them to keep their mouths shut. It’s proven. the emails are out there. The doctors went on record saying the CDC asked them to not say anything

    1. “Plenty of cases?”. There have been an average of about 100 cases of measles in the US since 2000, the year the CDC claimed it was eradi aged. Some of those years had over 200 cases, and one had over 600 cases. So, you see, this 179 cases this year is not unheard of, and has blown say out of proportion.

And, if you just look it up, you’ll see that the woman who died just recently had the measles virus present, had other serious health issues, and WAS VACCINATED FOR MEASLES! Before her, no one died here in 10 years.

Even before the vaccine came out, the death rate was only 0.02%. Despite years of fear mongering, measles isn’t, and never was a “killer disease.”. Those of you who were around when everyone got the measles as a kid know that no one ever considered it anything but a mild childhood illness. A rite of passage.

    1. Please do some further reading. One biased website should not be your only influence in making this important decision for your child. Also, if he is a newborn, how come he has already been diagnosed with autism? The symptoms don’t manifest until your child stats missing milestones or regressing, typically at 18 months to preschool age. And if it is genetics, who else in your family carries these genes, going back over the generations?

There may be some genes making a person more susceptible to autism, but it’s not *just* genetic. Otherwise we would have 1 in 50 people being autistic in every generation through history. There is clearly an environmental component here. Whether it is vaccines, or pollution, or antibiotics killing off our microbiome, or exposure to too much T.V. or something entirely different, or a “perfect storm” combination of all of those, has not been fully determined. But there is definitely a large environmental component in the root cause of autism.

      1. Autism has been shown through numerous studies to be mostly genetic.
Studies have also found the parents age is also a factor. Since we are having children later and later in life. In fact probability that an autistic child has an older parent is extremely high.

And the previous commentator did not say her autistic son was newborn. Just that he has been diagnosed with generic autism.

      2. Look guys, this is simple, there are no current facts that back up the claims in this blog. I’ve noticed that most anti-vac parents don’t really care about facts. Take the time to actually study this subject before deciding because there will be noone to blame except yourself if your decision ends up injuring or killing your child. Vaccines do not have the live virus, look it up, vaccines do not cause Autism, here’s a secret… noone knows what actually does cause Autism, there’s a popular study being done now to try to prove that its formed in the second trimester of pregnancy. They have ruled out things that they know don’t cause it. Vaccines do not. Statistics do not even nearly support that theory. The doctor who said it got into serious trouble for falsifying documents and not actually conducting a reasonable study. I trust my doctors, they try to keep my kids from being sick, and try to avoid meds any way that they can. Fact is, not everyone is out to get you. Not everyone wants to hurt your kids. Get a clue. Research things people.

    Click to access vaccinestudies.pdf

Also to think the CDC, or BigPharma or whatever you want to call it are manipulating them all, you obviously have no understanding of how medical products are manufactured, tested, studied etc…
It is independent companies that do the testing and studying. You do know what “independent” means right?

The risk of a serious vaccine reaction is less than 1%. In fact it is something like 0.003%
This is even backed by the NVCIP figures.

The risk of serious complications for disease can be 30%.
So please explain how disease is the lesser evil?

So instead of wasting everyone’s time I’ll instead leave a link here to Roald Dahl’s testimony of what its like for someone who watched their little girl die from measles when no vaccine was available, to then hear of children continuing to catch measles once a vaccine was available. http://www.roalddahl.com/roald-dahl/timeline/1960s/november-1962

  12. Thank you for the article. I thought it funny how it was conveniently left out that the kids that got sick in Disneyland all had their vaccines. People are so quick to judge those who don’t agree with them and there is nothing you can say to those closed minded people. I don’t judge you so don’t judge me! I’ve personally seen vaccines destroy two healthy people. You can’t tell me it was due to something else because one was an 3 year old and the day after the vaccines she could no longer move her extremities or talk correctly. She now needs assistance to do everything and will the rest of her life. The other was an adult going to nursing school. They required him to get his shots and he was sick within hours of the shots. He too lost all control over his body and needed live in assistance for about a year. He can now function better but is limited and has pain throughout his body every day and will never be able to work a job.

If my child is sick I don’t send them to school because I would never intentionally pass on a sickness. But what good does it do when you get the shots and still get the disease? Think about it people! 24 shots before they are 1 year old. We are the highest in the world for the most shots. Can you say trillion dollar business?

    1. You say the kids who got measles at Disneyland were vaccinated?
Can you tell me where you got those figures from.

Going off the February 20, 2015 report
      Official figures are saying:
      125 cases of measles
Of those: 49 (45%) were unvaccinated. If we assume that all of the remaining were vaccinated meaning 76 were vaccinated.

If you want to argue that the majority were vaccinated, I beg to differ, and to understand this you need to break down the figures.
      50000 people visit Disneyland everyday!
If we estimate the number of them vaccinated to be a coverage of 90% (conservative) that would make: 45000 of the visitors would be vaccinated.
      And 5000 unvaccinated.

      76 in 45000
      Against 49 in 5000

See how things look much differently when you actually break things down.

  13. My question to you parents who choose to vaccinate your children is: Why are you worried about my child not being vaccinated? If the vaccine keeps your child from getting the disease, then you shouldn’t have to worry. If there is an outbreak ,all the children without vaccinations will be vulnerable to getting the disease, not your vaccinated child. Your child is immune because he/she received the vaccination so he/she can’t get it from my unvaccinated child. The beautiful thing about this country is that we are supposed to be able to make the choice for ourselves. You choose to vaccinate, I choose not to. No matter which side of the issue you stand on, if you are really interested in “opening a can of worms”, check out this book: http://www.amazon.com/Dissolving-Illusions-Disease-Vaccines-Forgotten/dp/1480216895/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375499688&sr=1-1&keywords=dissolving+illusions. 2. Vaccines are not 100% effective.
At best they may be 97% effective. Meaning for every 100 vaccinated, 3 will not develop any immunity. There are also some that are unable to be immunized for medical reasons.
The reason vaccinated parents worry about unvaccinated is because during an outbreak it is the unvaccinated and those 3% vaccinated that will get the disease. Not only having to deal with the consequences of the disease but also spreading it.
The more unvaccinated around the greater chance of an outbreak.

There is a growing body of quality research that is connecting many cases of autism (and perhaps most) to folate (B9) and other vitamin issues, through polymorphisms on the #1 chromosome at various positions on the MTHFR gene and others. I have several of these myself, which is why I have read so much on it. Microbiologist Amy Yasko has done a tremendous amount of research on the topic and has what seems to be an excellent protocol for improving symptoms, entitled ‘Pathways to Recovery’. I don’t recall where she stands on the vaccine issue, but there is hope.

    3. I am not worried about the vaccinated children, I worry about the babies who haven’t been vaccinated yet due to their age, the immunosuppressed people especially the elderly; the people who can’t be immunized due to allergies, medications, etc. I have seen thousand of children receive immunzations over the years and have not once seen an adverse reaction. I have children who almost died from subacute epiglottis caused by Hib in the 1980’s before the Hib vaccine. I have seen children who have had varicella(chicken pox) so bad that they had to be hospitalized with severe skin infections and post-varicella encephalopathy. I’ve seen a baby die because his mother contracted rubella while she was pregnant. I have seen children die from meningitis. These were all before there were vaccines for these illness. I have seen a major decrease in the number of ear infections children have due to the pneumococcal vaccine and a decrease in the number of children who had to be hospitalized due to severe dehydration from the rotovirus. I have not seen babies with pertussis but have older children who immunity has waned. Doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other health care providers don’t make money giving vaccines. They are not in the back pocket of Big Pharma. Insurance covers the cost of the vaccine and we charge a small adminstration fee and if the family can’t afford that we waive that.
I see parents who choose not to vaccinate their children in our practice. We feel it is our job to take care of their children and listen to the parents. We would never push them to vaccinate. I find it very interesting to hear their reasons for not vaccinating. But generally, these parents don’t have solid concrete reasons for not vaccinating. Not one has been able to show me hard reputable evidence why we should not vaccinate.
I worry when those unvaccinated kids are sick and sitting next to a baby or a child who can’t be vaccinated. I worry that those unvaccinated children are in public school and public activities. I don’t want to see children die or suffer from complications of diseases that we can prevent with vaccination.

  14. I have to chuckle as I read people questioning why companies would manipulate results. I personally do not trust anyone anymore. Media lies, our government lies or let’s at least say manipulates us to believe what they want us to believe. The CDC? Who knows. My daughter had the MMR vaccine and had a 30 minute seizure in my arms a few days later. The ER doctor ordered too much Valium which caused her to stop breathing. She then had to be incubated and flown by helicopter to another hospital because they couldn’t handle intimated babies. I had to drive 3 hours not knowing if my baby was even alive. It was and always will be the worst day of my life. I do believe we should have the right to choose and parents need to stop bullying each other into making one choice or another. Who is to say who is really right? Right comes down to a matter of opinion and the biggest problem is the disrespect among people. Grow up, have some empathy and be sympathetic to parents who are too scared to vaccinate, who don’t trust the CDC enough to vaccinate or the people who blindly vaccinate because that’s what doctors encourage them to do. We are responsible for our own and our children’s lives and as parents we have to do what our guy says is the best thing to do, period. Do you honestly think I ran right out and got my daughter the next dose of MMR vaccine? You bet I didnt. Ask yourself, if you were in MY situation, what would you have done? I did eventually get it but many years later when her risk was much lower. Stop judging, start understanding and respecting.

    1. Your baby was incubated (you mean intubated?) and the hospital couldn’t handle intimated (intubated?) babies? The seizure was several days after the vaccine, so of course the vaccine caused the seizure, there was absolutely no possibility of other causes. And it’s the fault of the MMR vaccine that the doctor over medicated your child as well.

  15. I really find it difficult to understand the entire anti-vaccination movement. Until relatively recently, significant numbers of children were left dead or permanently disabled as a result of polio, measles and diphtheria. Cases such as these are now unusual, thanks to the success of public vaccination programs. What other factors do you think could have been involved?

This article is deeply offensive, not least because the gentleman has seen fit to insert a ‘child with cancer’ in his argument, whom he then blithely informs us does not exist. I wonder if he has ever seen a child in the last stages of cancer, and whether he would stil be happy to use this to score a cheap (and erroneous) point in this hysterical and ill-informed post.

To all of you who are considering not getting your kids vaccinated, I am sure that many of you want the best for your children. I would urge you to read the following article about how the children’s writer Roald Dahl lost his young daughter, to encephalitis.

I took a trip to Nepal last year and received my Hep A and B vaccines, a Dukorol dosage for travellers diarrhea, diamoxin for altitude sickness and lots of Aleve for any other headache issues. This is all in addition to all of my vaccines being up to date -measles, rubella, etc. I’ve also had a tetanus shot back 5 years and no I did not take Malaria pill but that is still something I’m on the fence about, as I know of one person contracting Malaria (different trip) and being bed ridden for years as a result. There are also many other vaccines one could get going to tropical climates, as there are many diseases that are airborne.

Luckily, I only came down with a terrible bug, was hospitalized in a Canadian hospital upon return –would have tried the hospital in Abu Dhabi but didn’t know if I needed a VISA as per the embassy’s initial instructions, and have only gotten back to full normalcy almost 9.mknths later. The thing is, such diseases are too common and vaccines are supposed to be preventtitive care. Children die everyday from these in such countries, just because our conditions are better here doesn’t mean we should take it for granted. A child can potentially get ill if someone is unvaccinated, and yes they can still get ill even if they are vaccinated but at least you’ve made an effort to reduce the likelihood of contracting something that could kill them here, or abroad (once you leave north America, you’ll really begin to understand)

  18. Have you ever taken Grade 9 Biology? A vaccine isn’t made up of a live virus you idiot. It’s made up of a shell of a virus. They take out the RNA (basically the part that makes it ‘alive’, or able to hurt you). This lets your body create antibodies against the specific virus. Next time you contract the virus, your body will be armed and ready to destroy it, presumably with little to no symptoms or risk of death. Read a textbook.

    1. That simply is not true. Certainly, SOME vaccines are made that way, but others are made entirely differently. Hell the brainwashing pamphlets that pediatricians will hand you on your way out the door can tell you that. I don’t know where or when you attended your “Grade 9 Biology”, but I might hazard a guess it was during the “No Child Left Behind” defunding education farce. If not, you may still be relying too heavily on a few textbooks which were probably not even written by experts in that field or even fact-checked for that matter. Too much listening to what “authorities” tell you and not enough hearing, questioning, or personal research on your own part. They are not “dead” strains, they are weakened, at best. 21. Things like this show just how uneducated, ignorant, and selfish people are becoming. By not vaccinating healthy children, you are not only begging for them to become ill themselves (viruses like measles, which is not its own vaccine so I assume you had your children skip out on MMR vaccines entirely, putting them at risk for mumps and rubella which are both dangerous and potentially fatal as well), but you are breaking down herd immunity and wishing death upon infants, elderly individuals, and any immunocompromised individual, including those with cancer, being treated with chemotherapy, those who have had organ transplants, and many other conditions. If this group becomes infected thanks to your children, it won’t just be a rash for them. It will mean weeks in hospital and potentially death, because your child was infected and you chose not to protect them. By not properly vaccinating your healthy children, you are stating that you do not care who lives or dies within your community. Also, if measles is “just a rash”, the side effects of vaccines in healthy children is a mild fever, some sniffles, and possibly a sore throat. Not pneumonia, scarring, and brain damage, like with measles. Please, ask an actual educated medical professional if measles is “just a rash” and if that is a valid reason for you to potentially put every single person you or your family come into contact with at risk. You never know who has a compromised immune system or what kind of treatment they are receiving, just like you do not know that your child is infected with an illness until 2-3 days after it is contracted, giving them plenty of chances to be the reason someone’s life is cut short.

That is just a start at all of the fallacies in your article. Also, saying that studies are “warped by the CDC” and that your children “deserve valid studies” is the ramblings of someone caught between purposeful ignorance and slight insanity. You can find studies from multiple countries and researchers all coming to the same conclusion. Dr. Aaron Carroll from the youtube channel healthcaretriage even made a video about how there is an abundance of studies all trying to appease uneducated conspiracy theorist anti-vaxxers like yourself, and how more studies isn’t helping change minds since they, you, don’t respond to facts or logic. The same channel has plenty of videos reporting on and linking studies debunking crazy rumors like the ones you put actually seem to believe here. I suggest you check them out and try to realize why you are doing a world of harm to your children and everyone they will ever be in physical contact with. Also, I hope you don’t care about your children’s education, since laws mandate that if any child in a school has a vaccine-preventable illness, all unvaccinated children are banned from going to school for many weeks until health services can investigate to not cause an outbreak and save the lives of those at risk.

    1. Unfortunately, it is you who needs to be educated – you have bought it all hook-line-and sinker. Did you know that it is vaccinated mothers who are giving their infants whooping cough? Did you know that most of those involved in the outbreak at Disneyland had been vaccinated? Did you know that vaccinated individuals shed the virus for many months – therefore it is YOUR vaccinated child who is spreading the disease to immuno-suppressed people, not MY unvaccinated child. Did you know that if you got the polio vaccine between 1950 – 1979 that you have a high chance of developing cancer after age 45 because of the SV-40 virus (monkey virus) and several other viruses that contaminated the vaccine? They are ticking time bombs within your blood stream. I’m not asking you to believe my words – I’m asking that you fully research BOTH sides, at which point you will clearly see where the truth lies. I too was pro-vax and my first child has all of his shots unfortunately, and I can only pray he doesn’t develop an autoimmune disease as a result.

      1. Simple math explains why the Disney land belief is wrong. At the very least 80% of the attendance had vaccination and they were probably half the people that got the virus. That means 20% of the people got the same amount of the disease as 80%. Which means if the numbers were reversed three times (or more) as many people would have got the disease. This is basic math and basic herd immunity theory. For some reason both are ignored in when discussing Disney land and I’m not sure why. It’s not a jaded opinion. It’s just a response to the evidence. It’s truths.

As far as the ticking time bombs you also fail to recognize your own facts. Those vaccinations might have been a problem during that time. That was over 30 years ago. So how can someone make a claim that vaccinations are bad today because polio vaccinations that ended in 79 as you said are dangerous for today’s vaccinations.

We also know the autoimmune is easily dismissed. Pre 1900’s the common cold and flu were some of the largest killers across the world. Something unheard of today.

These aren’t subjective numbers. I’m not sure how they are ignored either. I know your mind isn’t going to change. Either are those that value vaccinations. But the numbers show since vaccinations have been implemented the diseases have gone down. Since people have become being antivaxx they have gone up. The onus is on the anti vaxx to empirically explain this through science, logic, studies, etc etc. and they don’t exist.

Ps studies have been proven how long a wide spread conspiracy theory of that magnitude would last and the answer was like less than 10 and we are going on many decades now.

But that is not far enough. You should not live in community or go out in public or health centers. That is the consequence of your choice.
When we live in community and around others we all accept there are certain rules around this. Such as not killing others, not driving while under the influence etc… If we dont follow those rules, then there are consequences.
Same applies to your choice in not vaccinating. Accept the consequences now.

      1. There are other consequences beyond those of a citizen of this country not staying inside the lines of law. There are consequences when proper health and safety studies are not done for a given medicine. There are consequences when the budget for lobbying to doctors is 3 times greater than the budget for R&D for those same medicines. There are consequences when there is an even larger budget for lobbying to lawmakers in America. Then there are consequences to biased and unjust laws which result from that lobbying. Americans are not meant to “fall in line” as you suggest. Americans are meant to question everything. Many laws deserve to be challenged and that is especially true for laws born of fear mongering campaigns. There is legitimate cause for questioning the validity of legislation that protects the “financial health” of an industry over the protection of the physical health of the American populace.
It is sad to meet people like yourself that think those of us who disagree with a common view should be ostricized from this society. A society built around and structured on not only differing ideals, but, more importantly, compromise. You clearly do not possess the capacity for that skill as you demand absolute dominion over the topic at hand. You remind me of the current GOP. Your delusions will not keep you safe, but they can do you harm. You who speaks of consequences as though they only exist for the consumer and not for the large corporatiknsnpushing their garbage.

      2. Chemfreemom There is a ridiculous amount of independent studies that back the fact that vaccines are safe and effective.
Statistics also back the fact that vaccines are safe and definitely effective.
Believing the anti vaccine propaganda being spouted online is seriously naive.

When living in society and community, laws are required for the greater good. In society we need to make sure our actions do not impact others.
Would you question an individual who voices his right to drive drunk?? Surely its his right isn’t it?? That law must be stupid!!!
I dont care what you choose to eat, choose to wear or how you choose to live your life.
You do have rights to live your life the way you want and make your own choices. However when this choice impacts others, including the health and possibility of killing others then I am sorry that choice is no longer yours to make!!
Why do we have laws at all?? Why not just return to anarchy and each to their own!

      3. Rachel, I’ve spent 6 years researching vaccines. Not just listening to stories in the media or reports from the CDC (an organization that buys, and resells the majority of the vaccines, and who has been investigated FOUR times by the Senate, Congress, and Health and Human Services, and was found to be guilty of fraud each time), but I’ve spent more hours than you can imagine looking at government statistics on morbidity and mortality from every disease since 1900, I’ve read tons of articles by doctors, biologists, neuroscientists, immunologists, epidemiologists and more, and took it a step further and read the peer-reviewed studies, published in medical journals and the Institute of MedicineMedicine that articles were based on. And, I didn’t just read the abstracts for the studies, I read the entire studies (not exactly light reading). You’d be surprised how often the abstract does not accurately reflect the study details or true conclusions.

Anyway, I can tell by the statements you make, you’ve formed an opinion on this issue based on what you’ve heard, by people or organizations you trust alone. That’s the way the majority of people form their opinions on this issue. I encourage you to not listen to anyone’s opinion, including mine, but to do your own thorough research as I, and many others, have done. Especially if you have children or plan on having them. Keep in mind that most of the doctors and scientists who question vaccine safety had the same training and experience that the ones who think vaccines are unassailable have had, but there’s one difference. They had the presence of mind to look at the body of evidence on both sides personally, rather than trusting the government health agencies or what they were taught in med school. And, you simply cannot look at all of the evidence and continue to believe there is no problem. So, once they look under the cover and see what’s going on, they either want no part of allopathic medicine and decide to practice alternative medicine, or they try to speak out about what they’ve learned to protect children, and they are attacked and ridiculed by those who have a financial interest in keeping it covered or who haven’t done the research and still believe vaccines are wonderful.

Most parents who don’t vaccinate were once obedient little citizens and patients, like you, and lined their children up to get as many vaccines as the government and their doctors told them to. Until, that is, their child was injured or killed by a vaccine. Now, they are ostracized and accused of puttingputting other kids in danger and told they should risk further injury to their children to protect your child. As if they haven’t paid enough already.

By the way, here are the possible side effects for just one vaccine (MMR) as listed in the vaccine inserts or the Physician’s Desk Reference (your doctor probably knows them, but will never share them with you unless you push the issue):

” encephalitis, encephalopathy, neurological disorders, seizure disorders, convulsions, learning disabilities, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), demyelination of the nerve sheaths, Guillain-Barre’ syndrome (paralysis), muscle incoordination, deafness, panniculitis, vasculitis, optic neuritis (including partial or total blindness), retinitis, otitis media, bronchial spasms, fever, headache, joint pain, arthritis (acute and chronic), transverse myelitis, thrombocytopenia (blood clotting disorders and spontaneous bleeding), anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions), lymphadenopathy, leukocytosis, pneumonitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, urticaria, pancreatitis, parotitis, inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, meningitis, diabetes, autism, immune system disorders, and death.”

I hope you’ll do some extensive research on your own and that you’ll never have to figure it out the hard way.

      4. ChemFreeMom – I appreciate your drive to do your own research. I think its important. However, I think some major problems are associate with it. For one, correlation and causation are not always tied together. So much of your study most likely is fruitless while comparing data. Second, your six years of study really does look like a flash in the pan to most medical professionals who have spent decades studying health, and their studies have been backed by centuries of medical knowledge that has been collected and recorded over time. Third, the fear that the CDC is acting in its own self interest is real. However, you have to understand human nature. For this widespread conspiracy to actually exist it would require the participation of millions of people (big pharma execs AND its employees, Politicians, Doctors, etc etc). Studies have been conducted to show that millions of people cannot keep secrets. Sorry but understanding human nature would fully point to no conspiracy. It just wouldn’t be possible. Fourth, I believe you need to meet more doctors. Meet hundreds of them. Do not even ask them about vaccines. Ask them why the are doctors. Ask them what is fulfilling about their jobs. Ask them what med school was like. Ask them how they feel after they misdiagnosis someone and that someone either gets sick or dies. I think that would be the most eye opening study of all. Fifth, I think you misunderstand pro-vaxx understanding of the risks. Do I think most people don’t know risks are associate with the vaccination? Yes. But do I think most people would be surprised if you told them? that would be a deafening no. Everything in the medical world has some sort of trade off. Sixth, diseases that tied to vaccinations were not considered a passage of rite or a badge of honor by the majority of the people. Very few did. No one ever thinks getting sick over not getting sick is a good thing.

      5. I already know a lot of doctors, nurses, biologists, and physicists. The problem is not that most doctors are unethical. The problem is they’re being sold a bill of goods. They spend a fortune, and years of their lives, to get an education, and part of that education is teaching them that they are very special because of their ability to save lives, and because they know things that most people don’t. At one point, that may have been partially true. But, since the pharmaceutical industry has hijacked medicine, it is no longer true. They actually have no idea how to heal most things, they only know how to hand out drugs to hide symptoms and to give vaccines in an effort to prevent disease. Symptoms that could be used by a true healer, to get rid of the underlying condition. Doctors are really victims in a sense too. Yes, they know that children are being injured by vaccines, but they have had it hammered into their heads that vaccines have saved millions of lives and are a modern miracle, so compared to that ideal, the comparatively few serious injuries they see (and cause), are considered acceptable in service to the greater good. Most of them aren’t knowledgeable about the ways to truly heal illnesses, and most of them either weren’t around when these diseases were considered benign, or have forgotten because they are taught by their Professors, health agencies like the CDC, and pharmaceutical-backed journals that they are “killer diseases.” When even educated people hear that story often enough, and by several respected sources, they forget the reality even if they experienced it.
Yes, these diseases still kill people in undeveloped countries, but that is because they don’t have good nutrition, sanitation, and clean water to support their immune systems in fighting off anything, including diarrhea! The money spent on injecting these people with toxins should be spent on helping them get good food and clean water. Many still believe doctors are superior in their knowledge about health, but more and more are catching on every day! There are studies showing that allopathic medicine, with its huge concentration on drugs, antibiotics, vaccines, and surgery, is the number one cause of death in America. We all know someone on 5, 6, even 10 pharmaceuticals. Then, they are given drugs to counteract the side effects of the other drugs. It’s hard to miss the absurdity in what has become of Medicine even if you’re only half paying attention. Meanwhile, people are successfully healing themselves with the same foods, and food-based supplements, that have been used for centuries to heal. The medical and pharmaceutical industry see that change in the trend, and are very frightened by it. They all stand to lose a ton of money, and even their jobs if they don’t wise up. Why do you think they are hiring shills to spend all day arguing with people, using hollow arguments? Why do you think they are lobbying politicians to mandate vaccines? Do you honestly think it’s because they care about our health? They care only about their bottom line. Some doctors who know how truly dangerous vaccines are, and delay vaccinations or selectively vaccinate their own kids, will not tell their patients about it, because they know they will be ruined. So, those smart enough to figure out how dangerous vaccines are, keep their mouths shut and continue to put your kids at risk.

You must be young, or you’d know that these diseases were considered benign after nutrition and sanitation caused the death rates to plummet. People were happy to have their kids get the illness and get it out of the way. Lifetime, REAL immunity and a stronger immune system too. If you’re young, which I suspect you are, you have heard nothing but propaganda about disease and vaccines, so this probably sounds foreign to you. That’s why I suggest you go to the library and take out some medical history books, written back then (not written NOW about that time period). Look at books about the time that the death rates plummeted, before vaccines (look at government statistics on morbidity and mortality to find the correct time period). You cannot rely on information written after Big Pharma took over.

      6. You’re absolutely right. In my time to get childhood diseases (the 1950’s), mothers really did have measles parties (and chicken pox parties) to get it over with, because it only came through every two or three years. I grew up right in the middle of the polio scare, had the Salk and the Sabin, and fortunately survived them. Now that I’ve done gobs of research, I realize this was cooked up by the Rockefeller Institute, who had been working on polio vaccines since before the 1916 New York City outbreak (and may have contributed to it, since the index case lived only a couple of blocks from where these mad scientists were working). As for medicine, doctors are indeed highly-trained professionals, but it is also clear to me from research that the history of (allopathic) medicine is the history of mostly quackery, and that continues to this day. Although some specialties, such as emergency medicine, do outstanding, often heroic work, others, such as psychiatry, pediatrics, dermatology, and cardiology are questionable. The main reason for this, besides pharma, is that the political appointees who formulate policy, and those who develop standards of care have deep conflicts of interest, or are simply ignorant-stay out of the sun! My own family doctor is first rate, though!

      7. I was alive during the time when there were few vaccines, and during the polio scare. Nearly everybody got measles, mumps, chicken pox and the rest, but asthma, allergies, learning disabilities, autism, type 1 diabetes and other autoimmune conditions were rare. We had a single child in our elementary school of more than 400 with asthma, and no special education classes (now the biggest growth industry in primary and secondary education). What vaccines have done is to trade the acute but transient, and rarely disabling or lethal infectious diseases for chronic, lifelong conditions of immune dysfunction, and in the case of the MMR, a higher rate of serious complications than existed for measles in the early 1960’s, prior to the licensing of the measles vaccine. The measles vaccine licensed in 1963 was later withdrawn because it was too dangerous. This happened twice in the 1960’s. The head of the Public Health Service at the time said, “We didn’t create the measles vaccine because we needed it, but because we could.” This is also the only possible reason for the creation of the very dangerous HPV vaccines. Fancy technology. I hold doctors in general in high esteem. I’ve read dozens of accounts from doctors about what they are taught in medical school about vaccination, and invariably, it boils down to very little more than the schedule and the proper manner of delivery to the patient (and public health propaganda). Those doctors who are aware of the extent of vaccine injury are wary of speaking out, because they well know what happens to those who question dogma. And dogma it is, not science. We have created a monster with the current vaccination regimen. Measles, despite the fond hopes and proclamations of the public health authorities, will not be going away any time soon, but the vaccine has changed the demographic of infection from about age 9 to 14, to infancy and adulthood (more than half the Disneyland cases were adults, and many of them were fully-vaccinated), while at the same time nearly all women today of childbearing age have no innate immunity to pass to their vulnerable infants. In infants and adults measles is more dangerous. Stay tuned. The edifice of this massive and dangerous medical experiment on the population of the world will ultimately come crashing down. Pharma shills like Richard Pan and countless others have unleashed a sleeping tiger. I’ve spoken with hundreds of people, complete strangers, in the public about vaccines, and very few have actually drunk the Kool-Aid. Many Americans now have a family member or know someone with a vaccine injury. They are using their God-given intelligence, and asking questions. We’re awake, we’re united, and we’re not going away.

      8. Gary – I will start with the idea that anecdotal information is a logical fallacy. especially regarding science and health. its just not a sound way to protect yourself. I will say that I was not alive during the MMR time period pre vaccination. Needless to say I was shocked that I have seen people treating those diseases in such cavalier light. So I have yet to actually meet someone that thinks this way. One of my bosses has no hearing in one year that stems from the measles. Ive asked my family that live in two separate countries and neither group thinks those diseases were not a big deal. People were scared of them. As far as nearly everyone… that just isn’t true. I can’t find something that says 90 plus percent of the population had those diseases. The Disneyland measles with vaccination has already been addressed by very smart people. About half the people were vaccinated that got sick. But they wager somewhere between 80 and 90% were vaccinated. so 20% of the population getting the disease as 80% does not bode well to the conversation.

      9. It is true. Most people got them. They primed our immune systems, and gave us a bonus of a few days off from school, and 7-up (the only soda pop allowed in the house, and only bought as “medicine”). It really wasn’t a big deal. You’re only shocked because you don’t realize that the United States was not a nanny state in the 50’s like it is today, where all it takes is somebody whining about something and its all over the internet. We had no internet, but treasured our libraries, computers were the size of a house, and most people grew up into an expanding middle class, that is until the time of Tricky Dick. Its been downhill ever since.

      10. Chemfreemom – again you like to argue with a lot of information from people you “know”. But real evidence just does not support that about doctors. You put me in a position to do one of two things. Believe the medical community as a whole that has spent centuries on the craft or the anti-vaxx blogosphere. You spend plenty of time researching but where do you actually get your information from? How can I start doing this research? Websites like naturalnews.com really do not help the argument for people that want to get information. It takes less than five articles on that website to realize it is sensationalized opinions. I can not take anything along those lines seriously and I think most people do not. Even if you personally don’t think that is a valid website you’re missing the part where they follow the same vein of research and belief.

As far as the medical world not being able to treat disease we know this just isn’t true. It takes knowing the history of mankind to come to this conclusion. Our life expectancy has doubled because of treatable diseases from doctors. We saw an explosion in life expectancy along because of better hygiene. We know where better hygiene came from. the medical profession. Humanity has been on this earth in some form for tens of thousands of years and not until post civil war did we figure out hygiene. this stems from germ theory. actual doctors and scientists not only figure out how hygiene improves lives but they also explained WHY it does. You like to write off science so casually. which you are entitled to. But science has a pretty strong track record of answering questions. Plus we know doctors cure plenty of diseases but they are not perfect. It sounds like if a doctor messes up once or fails to fix a problem they must all be bad at it. Its just not true. I had e-coli and would be dead without the diligence of many doctors and nurses working on me for three days straight. not to mention that the only way to fix a torn ACL or lacerated liver is by a doctors hand.

I don’t know if they provide it for vaccination issues, but I seem to recall someone telling me once that they did get help for an issue related to vaccination. I DO know there are NO laws requiring you to vaccinate your kids if you home school! These doctors don’t even know the laws half the time, schools either. They’ll just say whatever they think will force you to vaccinate because they’re misinformed themselves, and some are compensated for higher vaccine uptake in their practice.

  25. “Research” does not mean doing a google search or reading what is online!!
If that is the case then I have 13 years of experience on the subject.
And I hate to say this but neither you or I are experts in the field. So even if we do read studies to the very end we do not have the skills or knowledge necessary to always extract the correct interpretation.

95% of health experts scientists immunologists and more are all in agreement on the subject.
And history and statistics back them all the way. You can’t make up figures. And the story they tell is very revealing. Vaccines are safe and effective. My opinion is from years of reading from both opinions. I have yet to find a single anti vaccination argument that has any weight at all and has any legs to stand on.

    1. Rachel, When I first started researching, you’re right, I didn’t know exactly what to look for. That’s where the doctors’ and scientists’ opinions will come in handy, on both sides. You don’t trust “alternative” doctors or media, and I don’t trust health agencies, mainstream media, or allopathic doctors. But, you should still read what they’re saying about the studies they are dismissing, and why, and then read the studies yourself and see if what they’re saying is true. It’s not as hard to read a study as you may think, and it’s a skill you can learn. But, remember, there is no way to get a complete picture of this issue without also reading the medical history books about vaccines–books that were actually written back then, before medicine was hijacked by the pharmaceutical industry. You’ll see that deaths from these illnesses had plummeted BEFORE the vaccines were developed. This can also be cooberated by government morbidity and mortality records starting in 1900. You’ll learn that those huge drops coincided with the discovery of the importance of nutrition and sanitation. You’ll learn that just before the vaccines came out, when almost everyone got the measles, mumps, and chicken pox, the overwhelming majority had no problems at all, and obtained true lifetime immunity. You’ll see that these were definitely not considered “killer diseases,” like you’ve been conditioned to believe they are. They were considered benign rites of passage that most children had at some point. I was around during that time, but if you weren’t, you will only get a true picture of reality by finding books written at that time. No recount of history written after Big Pharma took over will reflect that reality. They’re too vested in promoting all disease as horrible, and all vaccines as wonderful. The other lens you must look at this through, is the political lens. Like it or not, science and medicine are extremely political today. It’s late so I won’t get into that big topic, but see if you can find some old history books about what happened when the tobacco industry bought out the government and media. You’ll learn that as crazy as the conspiracy theories around vaccines sound, these kinds of widespread corruption and indifference to human life and suffering have happened many times throughout history when money and power took over. Shocking and unbelievable? Yes, but also unfortunately true.

    2. Rachel: “95% of health experts scientists immunologists and more are all in agreement on the subject (sic).” Hate to break it to you, but science does not work by consensus. Agreement is, in fact, inimical to the development of understanding of phenomena we don’t understand. Science is a way of evaluating evidence, not a collection of facts, of immutable truths. The essence of the scientific method is: observation of, and curiosity about phenomena, followed by a proposed explanatory hypothesis. Then comes the test: Experiment designed to falsify the hypothesis. That’s correct, Rachel. Actual scientists design tests to expose their hypotheses to a series of challenges. A single piece of contrary evidence is sufficient to send the hypothesis to the trash can, as the CDC researchers did with the MMR/autism data. I suggest you take a look at what Nobel-prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman had to say about science.

      1. Gary – 95% might be high. it might not be. But it is for sure very much tilted in the favor of pro vaccination people regarding health experts, scientists and so on. But one thing is for sure about the anti-vaccination crowd. The biggest supporter over time has been religious groups. A belief system that requires a specific outlook to bend the direction of its beliefs. Another large segment of the population is famous celebrities like Jenny Mccarthy, Charlie Sheen and Donald Trump (anti-vaxx people might hate this talking point but it is real and something that cannot be avoided) that like to make noise about vaccination. Science doesn’t work that way. It changes over time. I refuse to put my child’s life in the hands of religious groups and famous people who work full time as entertainers. If you were were shot in the leg and bleeding out which group do you want helping you? The medical professionals or the religious/entertainers?

      2. If you’re going to argue this issue, you really need to educate yourself. First, people have been questioning the safety of vaccines LONG before Jenny McCarthy, who is pro-safe-vaccine, not anti-vaccine by the way, Dr. Wakefield, and certainly Donald Trump questioned them. And, as a person who has been an advocate for vaccine truth for years, there are few people who know more people questioning vaccines than I do, and they NEVER bring up any of those names you mentioned. Only pro-vaccine zealots who are really uninformed about the body of evidence out there blame the “anti-vaccine” movement on these people. The reason we are annoyed by the mention of those names is because while we don’t mind using some of our time and energy to educate people on this important topic, we really don’t want to waste our time on people who are SO uninformed as to believe that our reason for asking questions is due to what a celebrity said. It’s sort of an insult to our intelligence (well, really, to yours), but mostly, when someone is that uninformed, it would take too much time and effort to bring them up to speed.

As far as “antivaxxers” being religious, again, you didn’t do your home work. While I’m sure there are many religious people opposed to vaccines for varying reasons, the demographic of most people who question vaccines is educated, upper middle class, married people who make at least $75,000 per year. You can find this info on the CDC website, if they haven’t taken it down.

      3. You are correct that science doesn’t work like that. As I said earlier, science is a method of evaluating evidence. But the vaccine industry, which includes pharma, public health agencies, federal regulators, and their cheering section, the media, is not interested in science. Vaccine “science” never changes. Ten years ago, Dr. Peter Fletcher, who had a long and distinguished career in public health, including heading the UK medicine safety agency, was interviewed by the Daily Mail. He stated that there is a large and growing body of evidence that in a subgroup of children the MMR jab can lead to serious illness, and that if this is true, “the refusal by governments to evaluate the risks properly will make this one of the greatest scandals in medical history.” It is certainly clear now that in a subgroup of children there is an unacceptable risk, but the CDC doesn’t give a damn. Nor does the NIH. Not a single research dollar is spent in an attempt to identify who these children are. In the fight against SB 277 I met dozens of parents of vaccine-injured children. The represented the entire political spectrum, and likely the entire religious spectrum from non-believer to devout, although we didn’t get into that. I met farmers, university faculty, business owners, people just like those who live in every neighborhood in every community. What united us all to come to Sacramento and stand in line to testify for as long as seven hours, was our concern about what the drug cartel is doing to our children. I repeat, these are regular people whose children have been harmed by our public health system, which is supposed to protect them. Read Josh Coleman’s experience with the vaccine injury of his son.

You can’t avoid that one of the biggest anti-vaxx crows are religious affiliations. 3. “Why do we have laws at all?? Why not just return to anarchy and each to their own!”

I see, so we question the validity of a law and its all “ANARCHY!” and “LAWLESSNESS!”, eh? What a crock of extremist garbage!

Thank goodness the masses have not always labored under such delusions or we would still be burning witches at stakes, enslaving people and selling said slaves to other rich assholes. Assuming such a blind society would have managed to end slavery, we would have still been stuck with “Separate, but Equal” which was garbage, and women still wouldn’t be voting. That’s just a small sampling of patently terrible laws which have been successfully overturned by human societies and, guess what, we still have human societies. Hell, we even live in a society where extremist pricks like yourself are free to saber-rattle and to tout whatever idiotic dribble they see fit. And that is great, but if a parent choosing not to vaccinate their kid “endangers” yours then I will make the argument that your ignorance over the importance of civil disobedience in ANY society endangers the liberty of this society at least as much. Fortunately, for both of us, both issues require a failure on their respective parts. For your child, the vaccine(s) must fail, for my liberty to suffer, common sense and love of true freedom have to fail in the minds of the majority. I am not at all sure which is more likely to fail, at this point, but I am sure that we must pity me and pity ALL OF US should your kind ever decide what constitutes liberty and civility for any country.

If your views were all that mattered and your laws were all that could be, I would absolutely vouch for lawlessness. Fortunately, we’re not talking about anything so extreme as that nonsense. We’re just talking about better regulations and concern over the health of our people over the “financial health” of the pharmaceutical industry while also preserving the freedom to choose what we put into our bodies and the bodies of our children. Thank God that will never lead to outright “anarchy” as you suggest. It is just the continuing process of American Democracy, where it still functions, with and for the support of We the People, continuing the conversation and working towards amenable compromise.

    1. I do know that, but unless you know the full picture of how politics with regard to vaccines work, you wouldn’t know that they NEVER admit that vaccine injuries or reactions are caused by the vaccine, even when they compensate people for those injuries. It’s a common practice in big business of any kind, pay them off, but don’t admit fault. And, when people win settlements in the “vaccine court,” they must sign an agreement to never speak of it. And, even though Hannah Polling was awarded a settlement for autism caused by a vaccine (her parents were both doctors), they will no longer EVER compensate based on that diagnosis, they will call it something else.

      1. THen explain this, how come independent studies show vaccines are safe and effective, with low rates of reactions?
Gardasil independent studies in 4 countries involving over 6.6 million participants show gardasil to be extremely safe and effective. How do you explain that?

      2. If you show me the links to those independent studies, I’d be happy to explain it to you. I can tell you from experience that “independent” studies are often not really independent. They are supposed to list any conflicts of interest, but often they don’t. You have to do some digging yourself to see if the study author has ties to big pharma or the CDC, for instance. Also, you have to make sure you read the whole study, to be sure, for example, that the conclusion reached is actually supported by the study data.

      1. Rachel, That would be an example of why I told you in another post that you cannot view this issue accurately unless you’ve not just thoroughly looked at the scientific studies, but ALSO,and maybe more importantly, you have to look at the historical and political side it. They intentionally make it difficult for the victims of vaccines to receive compensation, all the while dragging it out as much as possible in hope that they’ll give up trying. They also are very careful about wording. They have given compensation for vaccine-induced autism, most notably to Hannah Polling, whose parents were both doctors. And, despite the fact that victims who are compensated have to agree not to speak of it, in the internet age, the news eventually gets out. So, in fear of more people learning the truth and giving up on vaccines, causing them all to lose fortunes, and in fear of being held accountable for mandating a product they know causes some harm to all people, and major harm to some, they refuse to compensate for autism any more, unless it is called something else. So, your statistic is not proof that few are injured, it is proof of the corrupt politics surrounding vaccines. You can only know this by thoroughly researching the medical history books, and the politics surrounding vaccines from the beginning.

  28. Autism has actually been shown in latest research to be 70% genetic.
And that age of parents are a big factor. ie because we are choosing as a nation to have kids later and later on in life, this is potentially impacting the rates of autism.

Vaccines do not cause autism. This has been proven time and time again. How much time and money has to be spent before people start listening.
Instead of wasting this time and money, all of those resources could be spent to find the true reasons for the rise in Autism.

      1. What’s frustrating, Rachel, is that even by the standards of misinformed shills, you are at the bottom of the barrel. There are very few people who believe 70% of autism cases are caused by genetics. Now, if you weren’t just following a script and actually did some real research, you’d know that while there is a genetic component in some cases, there is always an environmental trigger. Genetics plays a part, and they are by no means sure how big a part, in determining who will be more affected by the environmental factor (including vaccines). You are paid to keep spouting off nonsense, without ever posting proof, or ever looking at proof supplied to you, but to just keep going until wear people down. It’s really a despicable job when you realize that you are contributing to serious, life-changing injuries, and sometimes death, to children. Since I believe Levi has one of those children, I think he’s showing tremendous restraint in dealing with someone helping out the monsters responsible for it!

    1. Rachel, I’ve you the benefit of the doubt and tried to give you a path to follow to truly educate yourself on this issue. However, I’m prett sure now that you’re been hihired as a shill by big pharma. I say this for two reasons.
      1. People who point you toward proof of what we’re telling you, is just ignored. I don’t think you care to get to the bottom of this issue. And, when you make statements like those above, which are wildly inaccurate, you don’t post links to the studies, or even say where you’ve gotten the “fact.”
      2. You seem to spend inordinate amounamount of time on here replying in opposition to anyone and everyone. Most people don’t have time for that, unless they are making a living doing it.
If you are a shill, you must be know. Though, I’ve gotten pretty good at telling a shill from a misinformed, but passionate vaccine supporter, I have definitely seen shills much more informed (albeit, with incorrect info) than you are. And, though, you may enjoy this job, you should realize you are aiding a huge industry in harming children for profit. At least do the research I told you about already so if you continue to do what you’re doing, you’re doing it by conscious, and educated choice.

      1. Chemfreemom – this post is completely ironic. Proof seems to be completely ignored by the anti-vaxx crowd. Whenever proof is presented its always written off instantly with one excuse or another. You also cannot group everyone that vaccinates into a “shill” or “misinformed”. You think Charlie Sheen is informed? Or the debunked study by Andrew Wakefield who was clearly trying to make money off his patent pending new vaccination.

      2. What you have said about Dr. Wakefield are some of the vicious lies cooked up by the Blair government (remember the Iraq lies?) in order to protect SmithKline Beecham. It was a team of thirteen, including one of the world’s top pediatric gastroenterologists, Professor John Walker Smith, (who by the way, was fully exonerated in 2012 by the British High Court, justice Mitting calling the General Medical Council, who stripped Walker Smith and Wakefield of their licenses, incompetent) who gave both good clinical care to those children, and did good science in Wakefield, et al. Their findings, inflammation in the ileum comorbid with autism, has been replicated in the U.S., Canada, Venezuela, and Australia and is widely recognized today as one of the commonest comorbidities with autism (see the Daily Mail interview with Dr. Peter Fletcher). Professor Walker Smith had the insurance backing to appeal, which was very costly, but Dr. Wakefield didn’t, yet he remains one of the finest physicians and researchers the human species has produced. He is now a filmmaker. I suggest you watch Vaxxed when it comes to a theater near you, or, if you are in the NYC area, you can see it at the Angelika Theater from Friday, April 1st to Thursday, April 7th. Also read “Callous Disregard,” “Science For Sale,” “Evidence of Harm,” “Dissolving Illusions,” “Thimerosal, Let the Science Speak,” “Vaccine Epidemic,” “The Big Autism Coverup,” “The Age of Autism,” “The Vaccine Court,” “Vaccine Whistleblower,” “Plague,” “Fear the Invisible,” and “The Vaccine Papers.” That is, if you are interested in learning why the vaccine regimen is destroying us, one child at a time. Finally. I’ll leave you with a chilling quote, from an FDA document published in the Federal Register on June 1st, 1984, concerning the sloppy production of the polio vaccine, “. . .any possible doubts, whether or not well-founded, about the safety of the vaccine cannot be allowed to exist. . . .” Cannot be allowed to exist? Does this sound like the United States of America you learned about in school? Even well-founded doubts? Is there any question that we live in a fascist pharmatopia?

      3. Gary – I do not know how you’re ignoring the part that wakefield was looking to introduce a new vaccine. I don’t know how that isn’t a giant conflict of interest. In fact that is a red flag that should be raised just like the anti-vaxx crowd constantly says to look out for. And frankly a great doctor does not become a great filmmaker unless he or she is a great story teller. I just don’t buy into the scare that we are killing everyone with vaccinations when we have a life expectancy of 70 plus years. we are over 50 years from the first vaccination now and we would see people dying with the cause of vaccinations on the rise right about now for an older generation if your theory was correct. which we are not seeing.

      4. First, his name is Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist trained and certified in both surgery and pathology. As I indicated earlier, he could not afford to appeal, as Professor Walker Smith did, and surely would have had his license restored, and Walker Smith’s was, had he been able to. It is true that the Royal Free Hospital was working on an immunoglobulin (not a vaccine) for use in treating children, but that is immaterial (except in the sense that it may have become a useful treatment option). The Wakefield paper (again produced by a team of thirteen physicians and researchers) was groundbreaking, and very important science, and their findings have become mainstream medicine, and dramatically improved the treatment of autistic children with what is now known as ileocolitis. It was retracted under pressure from powerful political/economic forces. The editor of The Lancet, Richard Horton, clearly caved to those pressures. The chairman of the publishing company (of The Lancet, and many other medical journals), Elsevir, sits on the board of SK B (now known as GSK). This retraction was an act of scientific fraud. It would be easier on me if you stopped posting, and started on the reading list. You appear to know little of this subject except what appears in the mainstream media, a highly unreliable source of information (as is much of the internet).

      1. First, this link does not allow access to the full study, so you’re coming to a conclusion based on limited information, which I warned you against.

Second, judging by the limited info on the method used in this study, they can’t conclude the degree to which genetics was a factor. They looked at a group of twins, but since twins are usually raised together, in the same environment, (and I found nothing suggesting these particular twins were NOT raised together), it’s impossible to ascertain the influence of genetics vs environment. And, even the study itself doesn’t claim to “prove” anything. Here is the title:

“Autism ’caused by genetics’, study suggests”

A suggestion, even if true, is not proof.

Besides, as I’ve explained before, while there maybe a genetic aspect to susceptibility for autism, there has to be an environmental trigger, like, say….vaccines.

As I said before, it’s really a terrible waste of time to try to tell them anything because they really don’t care.

      1. Levi: According to Dr. David Kessler, former head of the FDA, VAERS picks up only 1% of actual vaccine adverse events (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 2, 1993, vol. 269, no. 21, p.2765). If Dr. Kessler is correct, this means that for the 27 years from FY1988 to February, 2015, there should have been 1,459,100 claims for injury in the vaccine court, rather than 14,591, and 115,600 for death, rather than 1,156. To put it another way, using Dr. Kessler’s estimate there were, during this period, on average, 54,000 injuries, and 4,280 deaths per year from vaccines.

      2. And that’s just the ones that people connect to the vaccine, and since doctors are trained to always deny that a serious reaction is related to a vaccine, often people don’t know it is. And, since they’re not given the comprehensive list of possible side effects in the vaccine insert, but instead a “cleaned up” version in the Vaccine Information Sheet put out by the CDC, they have no way of knowing.

      3. Gary, you do know there is a difference between VAERS and NVIC. Looks like you are treating both as one and the same here.
VAERS is where adverse events are reported. VAERS’ statement of limitations itself mentions undereporting, and the fact that an adverse event reported does not mean a causal link has been established.
NVIC is Vaccine Injury compensation program.

        Like

      4. NVIC refers to the National Vaccine Information Center, started by Barbara Loe Fisher in the mid-1980’s, after her son was seriously injured by the DTP. It has no connection to DHHS, but is an excellent source of information. The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act, authored by Henry Waxman, and signed into law by President Reagan in 1986, can be known by the acronym NVCIA. The VAERS system under the NVCIA was set up at the insistence of Barbara Loe Fisher, who was actively involved in helping craft the legislation in the best way to protect children (it wasn’t). If you read the legislation, there was supposed to be active surveillance of vaccine injuries, but there was never any money to enforce it, and physician groups no doubt worked behind the scenes to kill it. That’s why VAERS is a passive system, and only captures a tiny percentage of actual injuries.

      5. Gary, everyone knows the underreporting that happens.

Using your own figures that there should be 1,459,100 claims since 1988.
4 million children are born in the US every year.
Since 1988 that would make about 112 million children born.
Lets estimate vaccine coverage at about 95% – meaning 106 million are vaccinated.
Now lets assume those vaccinated only every receive 1 vaccine in their lifetime.
That means the rate of claims against those vaccinated is 1.3% (Still tiny). This figure does not take into account the multiple vaccines received, and does not take into consideration adult vaccinations.
To make this a little more accurate, lets assume each child gets 10 vaccines during their lifetime. (In reality, it is a lot more. This is just for illustrative purposes) – the the rate of claims against those vaccinated is 0.13% (Again this does not take into account the true number of vaccines given or those given to adults)

So see even using your own figures of estimates as to the real number of claims there should be, you can still see that the risk of an issue resulting in a claim is still tiny.

      6. The double standard is always so interesting to me. When vaccine zealots point out the relatively small number of people seriously injured by vaccines, they shrug it off like it’s no big deal. But, when you talk about the miniscule number of people who suffer serious consequences from the diseases, it’s just horrible! For example, let’s look at Polio, since that is the one that seems to strike the most fear. According to the biggest vaccine pusher there is, the CDC, 75% of people who get polio have no symptoms at all. 24% have mild, flu- like symptoms that last 2 to 7 days. 1% develop paralytic polio, and the vast majority of these make a full recovery. Only 1% of that 1% have cases serious enough to result in death. So, I suggest that if you would rather take the risk of being in the comparatively small number of people who will be seriously injured or killed by the vaccine, go ahead. But, don’t try to interfere with my choice to risk being in the miniscule group who will suffer serious consequences from the disease, that is assuming I even get the disease. One notable difference is that our immune systems are perfectly designed to, and capable of, fighting off any of these diseases as they did before the vaccines were developed. Our bodies are not designed to handle more and more toxins being injected into our bodies.
Also, most of the injuries reported to VAERS are serious, and so, injuries that are not as serious, but nonetheless chronic, are not usually included. And, don’t forget that since no doctors will admit an injury is due to a vaccine, and you don’t hear about the possible effects, except for a few minor ones, a lot of vaccine reactions won’t ever be recognized as such. And, also, we’re not considering more subtle long-term effeffects like a compromised immune system, learning disabilities, tics, and the many other effects children suffer today.

      7. Trust me nobody shrugs off any injury like it is nothing.
My nephew had a serious vaccine reaction. Maybe not debilitating, but I understand perfectly the feeling of uncertainty and fear associated with it.
As far as only serious events are reported to vaers, you are wrong.
There are some reports in there that are a joke and definetely absolutely nothing to do with any vaccine!! Have you had a look for yourself? And some reports of events years after the actual vaccine.
        Such as:
348907-1 Father vaccinated against anthrax in 2000. Reports death of son in 2009. Child died of pneumonia.
252078-1 Prevnar “..The subject expired due to asphyxiation 319 days post immunization…The coroners office determined that the cause of death was a bean in the subjects trachea.”
206893-1 “This subject is a 9 month old female, who was enrolled in a Phase IV P3T08 (Daptacel) study. The subject received two doses of study vaccine; the last dose prior to the event was given on 12/27/02. The subject died of multiple system organ failure due to near-drowning, 163 days post-immunization.”
And there are many many more!

As far as serious consequences from disease you are right. It is absolutely terrifying. My father in law was left debilitated by polio and has lived with the consequences his whole life.
Using some figures. Measles hospitalises 25% of those that contract it. And kills 1-2 in 1000.
Those are some pretty serious figures.

My intention was not to shrug off vaccine injury as inconsequential. Everyone knows it happens and in some cases can be devastating.
What I was trying to point out is that the number of people who suffer from vaccine injury compared to those that would suffer complications of disease is minuscule.
So tell me which one is better? And which one carries greater risk?

        Like

      8. You got that wrong. The number of people suffering serious consequences from diseases is miniscule compared to those who suffer serious consequences from the vaccines–books just don’t hear about those as much because there is a vast conspiracy to deny their existence. And, again, the risk of vaccinating starts immediately, while the risk of serious complications from the disease only starts if and when you get the disease. My main point is go ahead shoot yourself and any children you might have up all you want. There are almost 300 new vaccines in the pipeline, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity. But you should butt out and allow others to take a different approach to health if they so choose. Don’t have the audacity to insist that we risk our child’s health to protect yours! If your child is vaccinated, they should be fine, right? And, if your child is one of the few who is immunocompromised, then it is your responsibility to keep them out of situations that may put them at risk instead of expecting every other person in the world to risk their child for yours. My bet is you don’t have children, though, and you may feel differently about forcing vaccinations on all children when you have your own.

      9. Please do show where the risk of getting disease is minuscule.
It is only currently minuscule because of the vaccine.
Do please look at statistics around each vaccine preventable disease. From before introduction of vaccine and after. And I am talking about incidence rate statistics here. Not just death rate statistics.
We have become complacent as to the true dangers of disease because we hardly ever hear or see it anymore.

I do not know of anyone of MY generation that has had measles, mumps, polio etc..
I do however know of several from the previous generation who did, including family members and family friends.
I do not know of anyone that has had any lasting vaccine injury. If vaccine injury was so widespread, where are they all?

      11. Chadtb – I see that you and people that think similar to you have a philosophical belief that a widespread conspiracy exists. Which you are entitled to have. Frankly though the amount of people and the scale of this conspiracy would be out-of-this-world big. We are talking thousands and thousands of people from different political, socioeconomic, religious, racial backgrounds as well as spanning many countries. Is it possible? Sure. But the likelihood of that being the case is so small. Probably a percent of a percent for that many people to keep a secret. That being said I don’t think big business does things to get warm fuzzy feelings inside so save the shrill talk for other people. I just make my choice off of understanding how business works, how basic human nature operates (inability to keep a secret), and the scientific method when deciding to vaccinate my children. I am not here to change anyone’s mind.

Frankly I came here to see if I could learn why people do not choose to vaccinate and I have yet to see anything compelling. From an outsider, this is how the arguments look, and you can choose to at least see why an outsider feels this way or not. 1) it comes down to believe in a widespread conspiracy that logically doesn’t make sense. “greed” is an ambiguous term that people try and lump in as a problem but it doesn’t really answer “why.” The greed comment is actually offset by Wakefield’s testing. He clearly was attempting to prove autism is from current vaccinations to promote his vaccination. That is actual greed. not perceived. 2) ignoring most scientist for a fraction of scientist is against how science works. There are billionaires that are anti-vaxx, so you guys have the resources to do a study that involves millions of people buy nothing compelling has come up. 3) writing off the diseases that we have vaccinations for as harmless just will never be something a majority of the population will buy into. Most people are a degree or two away from someone that has had some sort of life changing effect to the measles and the like. 4) Most vaccination parents will never look to a blogger or celebrity to help make a decision about health. Hard to think you could ever overtake the advice of a doctor, especially if that doctor has saved someone’s life and his patients know that. 5) Anecdotal information is not a sound reason to make a good decision. Every time an anti-vaxx person starts a sentence with “I know a person…” most people stop listening. its a logical fallacy.

Again you can just ignore everything I said, and I don’t mind. I know I am not changing your mind. But realize without addressing, at least, these five separate issues on a logical, scientific basis backed with actual research and with professional opinions the world is going to continue to look down upon your cause. Who knows. Maybe you all are right after all. but people like me need something more to actually think what you’re saying is true.

      12. If you wish to have any credibility with those of us who know the risks, and in some, such as the pertussis and the mumps vaccines, the failures of vaccination, you will first learn something about how medical research is carried out. There are case studies, which involve a single patient, often with a novel condition. These can be hypothesis-generating. There are case-series (such as the Lancet paper), which involve several patients, and usually are hypothesis-generating (get hold of a dictionary and learn the meaning of hypothesis in scientific research-it means something like an educated guess). To the thirteen authors of the Lancet paper, including Dr. Wakefield, there was a compelling reason to present as hypothesis that the MMR and the children’s regression to autism were linked because the parents of nine of the twelve insisted that the regression from normal and unremarkable development occurred after the MMR. An hypothesis is not a fact, not proof of anything, not a poke in the eye to pharmaceutical companies, but an educated guess that is explanatory of a novel condition, now called ileocolitis comorbid with autism. This is now well-understood by those who treat autistic children and is a great aid in their treatment, but in 1998 it was still unknown. The Royal Free team were the first to discover this. In the Lancet paper the authors called for more research to test this hypothesis (read the paper; it is available, and it says just this in so many words). In 1999 the CDC did just this, designed a study to test the Wakefield hypothesis. What they found alarmed them to the point that they violated the carefully-crafted study protocol, spent a year of statistical shenanigans to make the findings go away, put the original data in a garbage can, shopped the resulting paper to leading scientific journals, all of whom rejected it, and finally twisted the arm of the editor of Pediatrics (not a leading scientific journal), who published it in 2004. This is precisely what the film Vaxxed is all about, and precisely why the thugs who run our government turned the screws on Robert DeNiro to cancel the Tribeca screening. I realize as I’m typing this that it is pointless to attempt to educate people like you and Rachel. You’re clearly not interested in knowledge. You must have a great deal of time on your hands, but I don’t, so I’m signing off, nor to I intend to read any of the rubbish either of you post here in the future. Delete button for you it is.

1 – I don’t need to be taken seriously by the anti-vaxx crowd. that group is the extreme minority challenging the current system. The only reason I care at all because I think it could be a public health crisis. You say vaccinations already are but, like I said, you need to address those points I made in a different manner if you want real change.

2 – For some strange reason people do not actually understand a scientific hypothesis. Anything can be a hypothesis until its repeatable. Mr. Wakefield’s hypothesis has struggled to stand up to the rigors of the scientific method. I know you think that some studies have supported it but I can name many more from many different sources that do not making that a pointless exercise.

3 – I am not sure why you are intent on talking down to me. I am coming to you to tell you what I see is a problem with your movement. It should offer some support in how to change people’s minds. I am not dismissive of you or am questioning your intelligence. The lack of respect is insulting.

4 – If you feel the need to just auto-delete someone that disagrees with you, it makes it look like you do not have a sincere belief in your stance.

        Two things:

        1. Who says it would take millions of people acting in complicity and with full knowledge of the working conspiracy in order to pull it off and why should I simply take someone’s word on that when I know my own experiences with other Americans has shown me a complete and almost unquestioning supplication to authority?

        2. Please point me to a scientific, double-blind study of not only the efficacity of vaccines, but also their safety.

I won’t even fully address your vague excuses for their huge profits somehow not being huge and those profits are just the straight purchasing income and does not show the income from various government subsidies which range in the $billions. Not to mention spill-over profits for pharmaceutical treatments that then arise as a result of adverse reactions.

Your words are false and your reasoning is thin. Show me the double blinds, show me the numbers breakdown that makes their billions of dollars not amount to much. Be sure to break down their costs for lobbying to doctors and legislators and how much larger those budgets are then their budgets for R&D. Be honest, be thorough, and you will have my respect.

      15. Chadtb – you can say my words are false and my logic thin but that doesn’t actually mean those things.

1 – this is where your logic actually breaks down. There is a categorical difference between authoritative mass following by subjects and creating and maintaining a vast conspiracy. They are not mutually exclusive nor do they operate the same. However, as for an example lets just use politicians. to pull off this conspiracy you would have to pay off (this is one of the major differences than authoritative following) politicians in every developed country. However, you do have to realize we are going on 50 plus years. 50 plus years of politicians. That is tens of thousands, if not more. You don’t think one politician would have had some sort of death bed repentance where he produced one document that said “here is 100,000, keep your trap shut” exists? You don’t think that one of each politicians dozen of aides would spill the beans? That is just the politicians. You would have hundreds of thousands of doctors spanning 50 plus years to make this work. Again, human nature just doesn’t work that way.

2 – You just don’t understand how business operates. billions is a big number to be sure but its not the most efficient or effective use of a company’s finite resources. I’m sure a basic undergraduate class would be able to help you with that. Your logic falls apart because subsidies and spill-over profits come from their other more lucrative products. This is especially true when brand loyalty is close to zero. probably close to 90% or more of the general population will take the generic over the name brand. Again, refute my business with showing me how the profit margins are actually better with vaccinations.

3 – no double blind study will ever exist. I have not heard this talking point yet but your logical wheels have fallen off. You can’t do a double blind study for something unethical. What doctor or scientist would want to do a double blind study of tens of thousands of people taking placebo injections? No parent would sign up for it because they are taking their kid into get a vaccination for what they believe to be a preventable disease. This has to be the worst red herring argument out there. You can’t ask a doctor to break its code by being unethical. I know you think that vaccinations are unethical. but you’re not in charge of medical studies. the medical community disagrees. no way you can convince them to do something they believe would give someone a preventable disease. this point is laughable, and as important as double blinds are for science, because we as humans think double blinds are inhumane in many ways.

Your posts simply shed no light at all on this issue. And defending Gardasil, the best example of shameless quackery to have emerged from the murky world of vaccinology-the death rate in the clinical trials (in Costa Rica, that pristinely uncorrupted land) was far higher than the death rate in the U.S. from cervical cancer. 4. “Talking of financial health, lets not forget that the vaccine industry is a mere 0.9% of the revenue of the pharmaceutical industry overall. Hardly worth it to them.”

0.9% of a global income of $1,057,200,000,000 is roughly = $9,514,800,000 which is not exactly a small sum so let’s be real about that, that buys a lot of legislation, these days. We could look at the strictly 44.5% pharmaceutical income coming from North America, but that wouldn’t be fair, given that this is a global industry, but we’ll do the math anyway. 44.5% of the global figure would be about = $470,454,000,000 and 0.9% of that would be about = $4,234,086,000 which is still very high. If we consider spill-over pharmaceutical sales for drugs to treat symptoms brought on by degraded health from “environmental” factors, that is a profit that also leads to even greater profits.

Using a small number like 0.9% to hide a HUGE number is a common tactic of people that know they are wrong, but either don’t want to or can’t admit it such as in the case of a big shill and so they attempt to marginalize an issue using basic math in a misleading and mostly dishonest way.

Informed consent does not apply to an issue where the truth is not so clear. And, yes, we DO have the right to demand that. You will not come near my child with a needle if I do not want you to. I trust my own sense and due diligence and, regardless of your asinine arguments that people can’t/shouldn’t do their own research, it yields both accurate and verifiable results. EVERYTHING is available for scrutiny, these days, and a valid source is a valid source, no matter what you use to find it so drop the stupid shit. This isn’t the Dark Ages of medicine where peasants are forbidden from interpreting, for themselves, what is and what is not a virtue or a healthful practice. We do have the right to decide and the day it is no longer a right is the day we are no longer a free country.

      5. chadtb obviously pharmaceutical companies make money from vaccines. They have to in order to be able to keep making vaccines.
Would you be able to run a business by giving things away for free?? Would you do it out of the goodness of your heart?
The point I was bringing was to argue that vaccines is but a drop in the ocean for them, and not a huge income maker. They could make more investing into other areas rather than vaccines. Why do they not do this if it was all about money?
If this was solely about money then why is small pox vaccine no longer used? What about scarlet fever vaccine? Because there was a vaccine for that too. Surely they would push to keep using vaccines even if said vaccines are made redundant?

And just because there is “information” that can be found easily today for your scrutiny, does not necessarily mean that said “information” is true or accurate. There is so much misinformation out there such as this blog, it is not funny. Many people are unable to distinguish what may be accurate and how to recognise a reputable site.
As I have said before I have been reading about this subject for years, and have yet to find a single anti vaccination argument that makes sense, and has any legs to stand on.
I am always willing to listen to the other side, but as I said have yet to find any valid argument.

      8. Gary are you honestly saying that it is better to risk people getting sick from disease then the small risk of reaction from the vaccine?
My father in law was left debilitated from polio. It has affected him his whole life, and very nearly killed him a couple years ago when an infection in the back of his thigh got so seriously infected it turned septic, and he had no idea because he could not feel anything!

Yes I do have kids of my own. Hence why I have spent so much time reading up on the subject.

As I have said in another post, nobody is contesting the fact that vaccine injury happens. It does. And in some cases is devastating.
But the risk of this happening, is minuscule compared to the risk associated with not vaccinating and contracting the disease. And to top it off, not vaccinating has serious health implications on the whole community.

      9. Chadtb – its a common mistake with an outsider to look at the total revenue and think that a business will do anything to keep that stream going, especially if the number appears large. It is true many companies work off of small margins by producing large quantities in hopes to make a profit. However, this is not how the pharmacy world (or any business that has wide margins in products) works. Yes the number is huge with the .9% rate. But what you’re failing to realize is that same company is diverting resources away from other parts of the business that make way larger profits. You have raw goods, employees, machines and so on working on something that does not have a wide margin when those same resources could be used towards other products with high margins. Looking at the overall number is a sophomoric understanding of business. I use to look at that number and think similar to you until i studied business and have been working in business for some time now. So to think people are wrong by hiding a large number in a small percentage is not actually true. Basic business management, accounting, economics all disagree with your assumption.

I bet those figures would be interesting indeed and I suspect the percentage would be extremely high in representing those who have chosen to vaccinate their own children. (Of course those folks were probably forced to comply with vaccinations because of conspiracy connections doncha know.) My children are grown now, however I’ve inquired over the years (Yes, I know this is not scientific, don’t freak out all you statistics junkies. I’m just sayin’ and this is simply food for thought.) and I have yet to encounter one health care professional (either on a professional level or from a personal conversation) who has chosen to NOT vaccinate their children. In California in 2010, 10 children died in a whooping cough outbreak that was later linked, in part, to the presence of 39 separate clusters of unvaccinated children in the state. It’s that simple: When too many children go unvaccinated, vaccine-preventable diseases spread more easily, and sometimes children die.

Measles is still common in other countries. The virus is highly contagious and can spread rapidly in areas where people are not vaccinated. Worldwide, an estimated 20 million people get measles and 146,000 people die from the disease each year—that equals about 440 deaths every day or about 17 deaths every hour.

In 1986, Congress passed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 to reduce drug companies’ liability for certain injury lawsuits, to insure that the suits would not drive companies out of the vaccination business and leave the country with a shortage of vital vaccines. However, the law also provides a government fund to compensate families for injuries. The fund has provided almost $2 billion in compensation to over 2,500 families.

The law does give drug manufacturers some liability, such as manufacturing defects and failure to exercise due care. The law states that injury lawsuits are not permitted “if injury or death resulted from side effects that were unavoidable even though the vaccine was properly prepared and was accompanied by proper directions and warnings.”

Each year, about 85 percent of the world’s children receive vaccines that protect them against tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and measles. These vaccines save about 2.5 million lives, and the hepatitis B vaccine, although not as widely used, saves about 600,000 lives.
Despite this success, more than 3 million people die from vaccine-preventable diseases each year. Approximately 1.5 million of these deaths are in children less than 5 years old. Of the top 10 causes of death in those less than 5 years old, several are infectious, meaning they can be transmitted from one person to another.

    Measles
    Fact sheet N°286
    Reviewed February 2015
    Key facts
Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available.
In 2013, there were 145 700 measles deaths globally – about 400 deaths every day or 16 deaths every hour.
Measles vaccination resulted in a 75% drop in measles deaths between 2000 and 2013 worldwide.
In 2013, about 84% of the world’s children received one dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 73% in 2000.
During 2000-2013, measles vaccination prevented an estimated 15.6 million deaths making measles vaccine one of the best buys in public health.
Measles is a highly contagious, serious disease caused by a virus. In 1980, before widespread vaccination, measles caused an estimated 2.6 million deaths each year.

The disease remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine. Approximately 145 700 people died from measles in 2013 – mostly children under the age of 5.

Measles is caused by a virus in the paramyxovirus family and it is normally passed through direct contact and through the air. The virus infects the mucous membranes, then spreads throughout the body. Measles is a human disease and is not known to occur in animals.

Accelerated immunization activities have had a major impact on reducing measles deaths. During 2000-2013, measles vaccination prevented an estimated 15.6 million deaths. Global measles deaths have decreased by 75% from an estimated 544 200 in 2000 to 145 700 in 2013.

    More about measles vaccines
    Signs and symptoms
The first sign of measles is usually a high fever, which begins about 10 to 12 days after exposure to the virus, and lasts 4 to 7 days. A runny nose, a cough, red and watery eyes, and small white spots inside the cheeks can develop in the initial stage. After several days, a rash erupts, usually on the face and upper neck. Over about 3 days, the rash spreads, eventually reaching the hands and feet. The rash lasts for 5 to 6 days, and then fades. On average, the rash occurs 14 days after exposure to the virus (within a range of 7 to 18 days).

Most measles-related deaths are caused by complications associated with the disease. Complications are more common in children under the age of 5, or adults over the age of 20. The most serious complications include blindness, encephalitis (an infection that causes brain swelling), severe diarrhoea and related dehydration, ear infections, or severe respiratory infections such as pneumonia. Severe measles is more likely among poorly nourished young children, especially those with insufficient vitamin A, or whose immune systems have been weakened by HIV/AIDS or other diseases.

In populations with high levels of malnutrition and a lack of adequate health care, up to 10% of measles cases result in death. Women infected while pregnant are also at risk of severe complications and the pregnancy may end in miscarriage or preterm delivery. People who recover from measles are immune for the rest of their lives.

    Who is at risk?
Unvaccinated young children are at highest risk of measles and its complications, including death. Unvaccinated pregnant women are also at risk. Any non-immune person (who has not been vaccinated or was vaccinated but did not develop immunity) can become infected.

Measles is still common in many developing countries – particularly in parts of Africa and Asia. The overwhelming majority (more than 95%) of measles deaths occur in countries with low per capita incomes and weak health infrastructures.

Measles outbreaks can be particularly deadly in countries experiencing or recovering from a natural disaster or conflict. Damage to health infrastructure and health services interrupts routine immunization, and overcrowding in residential camps greatly increases the risk of infection.

    Transmission
The highly contagious virus is spread by coughing and sneezing, close personal contact or direct contact with infected nasal or throat secretions.

The virus remains active and contagious in the air or on infected surfaces for up to 2 hours. It can be transmitted by an infected person from 4 days prior to the onset of the rash to 4 days after the rash erupts.

Measles outbreaks can result in epidemics that cause many deaths, especially among young, malnourished children. In countries where measles has been largely eliminated, cases imported from other countries remain an important source of infection.

    Treatment
No specific antiviral treatment exists for measles virus.

Severe complications from measles can be avoided through supportive care that ensures good nutrition, adequate fluid intake and treatment of dehydration with WHO-recommended oral rehydration solution. This solution replaces fluids and other essential elements that are lost through diarrhoea or vomiting. Antibiotics should be prescribed to treat eye and ear infections, and pneumonia.

All children in developing countries diagnosed with measles should receive two doses of vitamin A supplements, given 24 hours apart. This treatment restores low vitamin A levels during measles that occur even in well-nourished children and can help prevent eye damage and blindness. Vitamin A supplements have been shown to reduce the number of deaths from measles by 50%.

    Prevention
Routine measles vaccination for children, combined with mass immunization campaigns in countries with high case and death rates, are key public health strategies to reduce global measles deaths. The measles vaccine has been in use for 50 years. It is safe, effective and inexpensive. It costs approximately one US dollar to immunize a child against measles.

The measles vaccine is often incorporated with rubella and/or mumps vaccines in countries where these illnesses are problems. It is equally effective in the single or combined form. Adding rubella to measles vaccine increases the cost only slightly, and allows for shared delivery and administration costs.

In 2013, about 84% of the world’s children received 1 dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 73% in 2000. Two doses of the vaccine are recommended to ensure immunity and prevent outbreaks, as about 15% of vaccinated children fail to develop immunity from the first dose.

    WHO response
The fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG 4) aims to reduce the under-five mortality rate by two-thirds between 1990 and 2015. Recognizing the potential of measles vaccination to reduce child mortality, and given that measles vaccination coverage can be considered a marker of access to child health services, routine measles vaccination coverage has been selected as an indicator of progress towards achieving MDG 4.Overwhelming evidence demonstrates the benefit of providing universal access to measles and rubella-containing vaccines.

By 2013, the global push to improve vaccine coverage resulted in a 75% reduction in deaths. During 2000-2013, with support from the Measles & Rubella Initiative (M&R Initiative), measles vaccination prevented an estimated 15.6 million. During 2013, about 205 million children were vaccinated against measles during mass vaccination campaigns in 34 countries. All WHO Regions have now established goals to eliminate this preventable killer disease by 2020.

The M&R Initiative is a collaborative effort of WHO, UNICEF, the American Red Cross, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the United Nations Foundation to support countries to achieve measles and rubella control goals.

    M&R Initiative
In 2012, the MR Initiative launched a new Global Measles and Rubella Strategic Plan which covers the period 2012-2020. The Plan includes new global goals for 2015 and 2020:

    By the end of 2015
To reduce global measles deaths by at least 95% compared with 2000 levels.
To achieve regional measles and rubella/congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) elimination goals.
    By the end of 2020
To achieve measles and rubella elimination in at least 5 WHO regions.
The strategy focuses on the implementation of 5 core components:

    achieve and maintain high vaccination coverage with 2 doses of measles- and rubella-containing vaccines;
    monitor the disease using effective surveillance, and evaluate programmatic efforts to ensure progress and the positive impact of vaccination activities;
    develop and maintain outbreak preparedness, rapid response to outbreaks and the effective treatment of cases;
    communicate and engage to build public confidence and demand for immunization;
perform the research and development needed to support cost-effective action and improve vaccination and diagnostic tools.
Global Measles and Rubella Strategic Plan 2012-2020
    pdf, 1.39Mb
Implementation of the Strategic Plan can protect and improve the lives of children and their mothers throughout the world, rapidly and sustainably. The Plan provides clear strategies for country immunization managers, working with domestic and international partners, to achieve the 2015 and 2020 measles and rubella control and elimination goals. It builds on years of experience in implementing immunization programmes and incorporates lessons from accelerated measles control and polio eradication initiatives.

Based on current trends and performance, global immunization experts concluded that the 2015 measles milestones and elimination goals will not be achieved on time. Resuming progress will require countries and immunization partners to raise the visibility of measles elimination, address barriers to measles vaccination, and make substantial and sustained additional investments to strengthen health systems and achieve equitable access to immunization services.

    1. I suspect you’re too young to remember when measles was common but asthma, type 1 diabetes, learning disabilities, allergies, autism, and assorted autoimmune conditions were rare. I was alive during the time measles was common, and I know damn well that we were far healthier, FAR HEALTHIER than children today. Acute but transient infectious diseases like measles are clearly preferable to the horror of chronic life-long and life-shortening conditions you vaccine apologists and enablers have visited upon our most vulnerable. Do you work for one of the CDC-funded propaganda firms like Megan Media? Wouldn’t be surprised.

      Like

    2. I appreciate that you put so much effort into making your point, but you cannot come to any accurate conclusions by reading what the CDC and WHO tell you. The CDC has been investigated 4 separate times, twice by Congress, once by the Senate, and once by Health and Human Svcs., and found to be guilty of all kinds of corruption every single time. Over a year ago one of their top scientists admitted that any time the CDC gets results they don’t like, especially if it connects a vaccine to autism, they eliminate people from the study, change the parameters, or simply leave data out. That’s fraud. This scientist has turned over 10,000 sheets of information to congress to back up his accusation and he’s been granted whistle blower status. Still, nothing happens to the CDC. Why? Because of big money and power that pervades politics, and science today. So, you’ll excuse me if I’m not impressed with anything you obtained from the CDC.

Second, yes, measles kills lots of people in developing countries, as does diarrhea. That’s because they have poor immune systems due to lack of nutrition and polluted water, etc. The same way these diseases killed people in the early 1900s here in America. But once we recognized the importance of nutrition and sanitation, the deaths from these diseases plummeted from between 75% and 99% (for measles), THEN the vaccines were introduced. The same thing happened in other countries around the same time.

As far as pertussis goes, it wouldn’t be hard for you to find studies that show that the problem with pertussis is two-fold. One, the pertussis virus has morphed, and two, the new pertussis vaccine is not very effective at all. The one before this one was slightly more effective, but it was causing pertussis. Just as the polio vaccines caused many many cases of polio and still do in developing countries.

As far as your statement that the vaccine “court” isn’t busy because they only settled with 2500 cases, those are just the ones they paid, the vast majority of cases are not paid because it is not really a COURT, but more of an administrative process. They make it extremely hard to prove your case, much harder than it would be a in a court of law, because they’re afraid people will realize just how often there are injuries if they compensated for all of the cases that deserve it. Also, it doesn’t take into account that both the FDA and CDC admit that only about 1% of the injuries are even reported.
